    Hi Everyone,

Sorry - don't have the software with me to post this on the front page, but SANDRA DAY O'CONNOR is testifying about Alzheimer's Disease at a Senate Hearing this morning - Wednesday- at 10:30 AM. I am running late, and have to get over to Capitol Hill in 20 minutes. I have meetings with senators and representatives all morning and afternoon, but I am going to try to fit in going to the hearing.

Would someone be so kind as to look up how you can watch the hearing on the web and post it here. I haven't got a minute to do it. Gotta go. I'll check in later tonight. Very much later.

    Thanks.

    Joan and others,

I haven't been able to find how to listen to Sandra Day O'Connor's testimony today, but I did find some articles and a video from the conference at www.washingtonpost.com - you may need to register to read the articles, but it isn't a big deal to do so. Maybe O'Connor's testimony will be there.

Found it! Go to http://aging.senate.gov/ at 10:30 ET

There's a link for a webcast of the hearing.

Does anyone know what you need to view it? When I click the link, it brings up a window to save the .ram file.

I had the same problem at first. If you click on it and hit your tab key, it will bring up the notes from the hearing. I have brought up all of the speakers and gotten their speeches in written form at this address:
    JUST HIGHLIGHT, COPY AND PASTE:

See if this works for you. It was an excellent speech, as was the caregiver's one and the patient's.

    Hi Everyone,

I'm finished with my vist to the Hill - I have MUCH to tell you about what we did, but that will have to wait until I get home. For now, I want to tell you that after the Alzheimer's Hearing with Sandra Day O'Connor and Newt Gingrich, I actually managed to speak to Justice O'Connor for a minute - told her about this website, and gave her my card. Since I started this site, I have been wanting to get HER perspective as an Alzheimer Spouse, but was never able to find any address - e-mail or otherwise- to be able to get in touch with her. Hopefully, she will read the card and take a look at the website, and if we're really lucky, get in touch with me. She has so much insight and information to offer. Yes, she has the financial resources that most of us do not have to provide care for her husband, but the emotional Hell she has gone through due to AD is the same as all of ours.

I'll have more to report on the Gingrich testimony when I return home. I will say that I was very pleasantly surprised and shocked at his perspective on Alzheimer's research, funding, and government in general.

Oh, and just to let you know- the Memory Walk was A PIECE OF CAKE COMPARED TO WALKING WASHINGTON DC. Just to get from one building to another, even going through inside tunnels is a long distance marathon. It's no wonder all the interns, aides, and assistants are right out of college - who else has the energy to walk 25 miles a day???

    I need a nap.

Sorry that people had trouble with the link I gave earlier. I did too! The hearings are now archived, so if you missed them earlier, you can still watch. The link is now on the Alzheimer's Association website. You can also see them on C-Span's site. You need RealPlayer at either site. I was really impressed by the caregiver who testified. I also thought the committee asked some really good questions.
