A gentleman whose wife has Alzheimer's says that his wife is obsessing over the dog, a golden retriever. When the dog lays down, she rushes to put a pillow under her head. Five minutes later the dog goes somewhere else, she grabs another pillow and puts it under the dog's head. All day long. When they go anywhere, she wants the dog to go. When they go in, she obsesses about leaving the dog in the car. If he insists that the dog stay at home, she worries about it constantly until they return home.
Have any of you had this problem, and if so, what was your solution?
OCD can find be controlled much like the obsessiveness we witness here with alot of our own spouses. i think a call to her dr would be in order to see what if any help could be gained by trying a new medication on her.
under these circumstances medications become our friends not foe. having someone out of control and so constantly distraught is very hard on them and us. divvi
My husband obsesses over our dog,90 lb.female Dobe, always asking me "where's the boy".Our last dobe was a male and he thinks this is same dog.he is constantly checking to see where "the boy is".He gets upset when I raise my voice at the dog, also doesn't like to go and leave the dog and we can't take "him' with us since it is petrified of the car.I find the obsession is getting worse but he gets very upset if anything is said to him about it. I love the dog, too, but think it needs to have some limitations.we've tried lexapro, cymbalta.and now zoloft.
sounds like home,we have a blk lab that is about 60#s over weight, wife is constantly feeding it,if we go out for dinner or breakfast she will bring half home for the dog, constantly giving the dog milk bone treats, she says the vet told her the dog needs milk bone in order to keep her bowels working properly,I am always at the vets office when we take the dog an every vet that we see says the same thing NO TREATS for any reason,if I say anything about feeding dog she goes ballistic, wanders around the house constantly looking for dog, asks if I've seen her,its kinda hard to miss 120#s of black dog laying on the floor but she does this all day long, while I love the dog, their both driving me nutz
