I think today may be the beginning of a new phase for us. DH got up this morning and said he "thought" he needed to go to the bathroom. (Strange statement from him since he always just heads that way..) Turned out, he already had...poop filled underwear!! So, I guess this may be the beginning of pull-ups or whatever...now I need to find a thread on "what to do when you arrive at this stage!" Hoping this will just be a "during the night" thing..or maybe something else triggered this. Any thoughts? I'm sure others have had the same experience, unfortunately. We're all in this together.
I'm so glad I found you all, just sorry we had to meet this way!
Early on in my dh diagnosis, he would have a few accidents. His neurologist told me to expect this problem as we went further along. About a year ago I permanently put my husband in depends. I was lucky as they never seemed to bother him. I put doubles on him at night and as I type I am washing sheets for the 2nd day in a row. I don't know what stage your husband is in, but I've dealt with this from early on. However, he has very few "poop" accidents. The worse was about a year ago when I found it by the kitchen garbage can. I'm still not sure how he squatted there. Sad thing is they don't even realize they are doing it. As with all new phases, I secretly mourn for both of us, and then buck up for the long journey ahead. This website has helped me in many areas and there are so many wonderful people that seem to have the right answers and suggestions.
Here is the thread on incontinence - everything you hoped you never needed to know - http://thealzheimerspouse.com/vanillaforum/comments.php?DiscussionID=295&page=1
Thanks for the thread on incontinence..I'll be spending time reading again tonight! I've visited a few websites that have AD information, but nothing compared to this one. This is more of a "hands on" information! I appreciate it more than I can say.
