As several of you know, my son is on the transplant list for a kidney and pancreas. He also has been trying to sell his house in Ft. Lauderdale for 4 years! Well, the house finally sold - and he has to be out this week. Wouldn't you know, he got the call for the transplant at 2 a.m. this morning! No way could he take it with the moving, etc., getting the house he bought ready, etc. So, he had to turn it down. And I am so far away, I can't help. With DH it would be impossible anyway.
Good news is, it won't change his status - he's still at the top of the list!
Thanks, all of you. I should have posted this under O.T- but didn't think when I posted. It's been a rough few years for us, but hopefully, things will come together. Just happy he's out of that big house and into a smaller one and can now plan for the transplant better.
Vickie, so sorry he could not take advantage of the transplant at this time. I know another will come along real soon. And at least the house is finally sold, which is no small feat in this market.
Being the grandmother of a three-time heart transplant, and understanding exactly how you feel when you're waiting, I cannot imagine he had to turn down a match. How long was he on the UNOS list before this call. I'm so sorry.
He has been on the list about 9 months. Took him forever to get approved though. I have been keeping up with your granddaughter's progress. God is good!
Vickie, I agree with Susan. God works in so many different ways. We just need to accept that he is in control. The next available may be the better one for him. Love, bill
Lori, Krissy is improving slowly. She developed a virus infection (similar to MONO) that wracked havoc with her liver. She's had a PICC line in her shoulder/and down into the area near her heart to administer IV drugs daily. Good news is that she can do this from HOME. She had gone back for about a week to control the vomiting initially. All of her anti-rejection drugs work so well, she cannot reject any virus or bacteria that comes her way, so her world is relatively limited in scale. She has regular biopsies of her new heart, and although she isn't getting Grade 0's, she's hanging in with 1's. Higher the number, the more the heart is trying to go into rejection. I think the top "bad" number is a 4. She is gaining weight..up to about 125 last I heard (she is almost 5'10"). We praise God for every day she is well. Thanks for asking.
