Today in RI it's chill, 46, no frost here (I'm near the water), windy, but definitely not a day to go walking. More like March (of course we had MAY in March!) I've only planted pansies and the new azaleas. Max the Cat who has recently been allowed to investigate the outside has come in - he didn't know what to make of the cold, I think.
Zibby, I hope that you can get out of the dumps soon. We all spend a lot of time there!!! Me included!
Wait until your husband falls asleep while eating and takes one hour to finish his plate. This is the norm now, not the exception. However, it is the last thing he can do for himself, so for the most part, I let him. Sometimes I will put the food on the fork for him, but let him carry it to his mouth.
He's lost 20 pounds in the last few months, but has been eating the same amount.....not a good sign either. Divvi's husband and mine are about at the same point, and Bluedaze's husband seems a little ahead of us. This is a slow race with no winners.
April is almost over....May and warm weather and pretty flowers for everyone is coming!!! As is my iPad 3G!!!!!! I'm spoiling myself again, everyone! I refuse to go down without a fight! I can keep up with my geek sons, and I want to be able to have e-mail and web access and games and music whereever I am. I love my Kindle, and now I know I'll love my iPad too! (This type of stuff keeps ME from staying in the dumps too long. Otherwise, I'd roll over and give up!)
My love and prayers to all of you! Stay healthy, and remember - only YOU can make yourself happy!!!!! It's work, but it is worth it!!!
Mary - good luck with the ipad - it looks kind of neat. I'm spoiled - got the PC for work and the PC at home. After being on one all day, the last thing I want to look at when I get home is the PC. However, love, love and love my Kindle. I am now at the point where I would rather load a book on the Kindle than read a paperback or hardcover. I take it most places with me. I have downloaded Kipling, Kahil Gibran and some of A. A. Milne to read to hubby when I visit. It is nice to have them all on that one thing instead of carrying in a book or books. I don't know if he really understands or pays attention to what I am reading but I like to think that the sound of my voice is good for him.
It is cold and windy here today. Can't wait for the weekend with temps in the 80s. Maybe I will even get some gardening in.
It's spitting some snow here in Montana today. Last week, it was in the 70s.
Did anyone else start the full moon early this month? DH started the Full Moon Effect two weeks ago. What is with this extra hard month?. Just three weeks ago, I was telling you how things have been easier. May be it is because of how volitial the weather has been.
I love my Kindle too but still read a lot of paper books -- some are gifts, or borrowed from friends, or from the library. It's about half Kindle, half paper right now. And some books that you can order from alternative vendors on Amazon are cheaper than the e-versions, even including postage.
After being woken at 4:00 am, I gave up getting back to sleep, and went to the grocery store at 5:00 am. I was rewarded with a beautiful full moon, in a deep blue, clear, dawning sky! Ahhhh.....
Today is DH's 87th birthday. He got up all bushy tailed this morning and said he was going to paint the rest of a shed we have out back - belongs to the neighbor, but one side is on our property line - so we keep it painted. I had done most of it already. So, he ate breakfast and got started. I sat on the back porch and watched. I know better (now) than to offer advice! Took him about 2 hours, but he did a fairly good job - and it will suffice. He told me when he came in that he had to prove to himself that he could still do things - at 87! LOL
So how much paint was he wearing when he came in? 87 and still wanting to paint the shed - that is something.
Today is a nice sunny day - a bit windy and cool but still nice. The dogs and I had a lovely walk this morning. They were full of energy and so was I. Good thing we all walked some of that off.
I got a lovely gift last night when I went to see my husband. He woke up while I was there and lit up when he saw me. He hadn't been very awake the last several times I was there so it was nice to see him awake. He did shut his eyes after a while but I could tell he was still awake - he wasn't letting my hand go.
Vickie, Your 87 year old DH is doing great. Mine can't find the bathroom and has to be directed. When he gets there and seated he looks at me and ask "Do you want me to pee"...Yes, dear, that's why you are sitting there. Be thankful and wish him a Happy Birthday from me.
Late checking in. I took my husband to the doctor today, for the swelling in his feet, ankles & legs. Also, was concerned about him having numerous bowel movements. He really done well, after it took 4 of us to change him...why can't he be one of the dear souls with dementia that is not combative. He is going tomorrow for a Doppler Ultrasound...checking for blood clots. He is also being checked again for C Diff, as to maybe the cause for the numerous bowel movements. Hopefully, all will go well tomorrow.
Warm and very windy day here. Took my husband to see his psychiatrist today for a med check. This doctor is the only one my husband has who has known him since before FTD. He's known my husband for over 15 years. This was the first time my husband asked me outright to come in with him. Also when the doctor asked my husband some general questions about how he felt and how his mind felt to him, my husband said that is brain feels "wasteful". I truly wish I knew what he meant by that.
Crazy day here, we had Sunshine, rain, hail, snow, sun, clouds, high winds and roofers up on the roof hanging on for dear life. The got the front finished and thankfully packed it up til tommorrow.
I had my first Jenny Craig Weigh-In. I lost E I G H T pounds in one week! I know this won't be the norm, but boy does it feel good! It's been a long time since I've focused on me. It feels strange, but kinda nice.
Cool, but sunny here in Lancaster,Pa.Farmers are cutting spring grasses, hard on my allergies.Thet are alsp spreading their liquid manure,Whew! My AH said he is tired of hearing me sneeze,I told him I'm tired of sneezing but can't stop it,Even my doctor has given up on me. He said no none has died sneezing yet, well I'll be first to make history,Wish I could send some manure smell down to you bluedaze in case you miss Pa's wonderful aroma.
Thanks yhouniey-but I prefer the fragrance of my magnolias. I bought some Lebanon bologna yesterday and thought of you. It's great with thick slices of tomato and Fl sweet onions which are in season right now.
yhouniey - When we lived in a small town in Oregon we also had the liquid manure smell, they grown grass seed around here so there was the harvesting of that usually on a calm hot night so the dust just lingered around. The worst was when the city started using the liquid from the sewer plant to water the trees (also grow a lot of shrubs and trees in the area). The city leased the land to Mexicans who grew ornamental trees. For some reason they decided to use the sewer water for irrigation which sent the aroma around town. I for one will be glad when the trees are done blooming - my window sills have so much pollen stuck around them. the Hawthorne is blooming now and after that we should be done for a while.
Susan - have a great weekend and special time with your friend.
I am going to have to have a talk with my DIL. Art seems to think it fun to lock the door when she is coming - she doesn't think it funny. He gets loud when he never use to and she has commented more than once to her daughter that she and Papa need to learn to use inside voices. She just does not understand that is is part of this disease. He loves to have fun but in his other life he would not get such joy out of locking the door (like a child) and his voice was never loud. He had the soft voice - I had the loud voice especially until he was diagnosed. He was never hearing me so I would have to get loud. I now know why.
Today was the Queen's birthday celebration. There are festivities in every town and on tv you can watch the royal family who are invited to two towns and take part in the fun and games there. I used to take the kids to the "Aubade" where there is community singing early in the morning and then later to games in the park. Now the only thing we do is go to the local pool grounds where there is a community lawn sale especially for kids. I bought a little something for each of the grandchildren. Toy recycling. DH's brother and sister in law stopped by for a drink this afternoon -- that was very nice. After they left DH was restless as usual and wanted to go "home" but I got him to settle for just picking up some Indonesian takeaway. Our driveway is carpetted with brught pink Japanese cherry blossom. It was windy this afternoon and "raining" cherry blossom. Lovely sight.
Last day of April! Good grief by the time Memorial Day arrives I always feel like it is time to get the Christmas tree out and the holiday rush started anymore. Where does the time go! I am so far behind I think I am in first place! DH had two doctor visits today..protime...blood too thin so coumadin adjustments and a followup again next Friday. Then a visit to the pulmonologist and he told the doctor he felt great, not a problem in the world he is healthy as a horse and his breathing is just fine, that MY observation of his huffypuffys is all in MY head..well the report says he has gone from mild COPD to moderte COPD. Now he has an inhaler ( or is it inhalator lol) to add to his box of medications. Other than that it is sunny here but windy and kind of on the chilly side but next week promises to be nice and warm..woohoo.
