It's a sad one for me. I'm starting to heal after putting up with the rages for so long. Now I grieve for all we as a couple have lost. Bill always brought in lobsters and made me a wonderful dinner. He knew I didn't like going out to an overpriced, crowded restaurant for a poor meal. He truly tried to make every day special for me. I hated him during his last miserable year at home. Now I feel guilty. I knew it wasn't his fault-but it wasn't mine either. I hate this disease!

Bluedaze....don't be so hard on yourself. I felt the same way when my husband was "in the zone"......I could have killed him and sometimes wished he would just go away. I think it is pretty normal. After all, we are only human beings with no training in dealing with someone who changes into someone we don't know or even like right before our eyes.

Being an AD caregiver is sort of like motherhoood. There is no training manual, no one tells you what is really going to happen, you spend many sleepless nights, shed a lot of tears and if they live long enough, you get to change a lot of diapers.

Bluedaze - Happy Mothers Day!!!!!!!! i also do the grieving for what we have lost, worked through anger and resentment - until the next "new challenge" rears its ugly head. I hope that Bill's wonderful memories will cover you with love and care today - if not, know that we are all sending that your way in his name.

To those of you who are mothers - HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY! This should be our day off! :)

Whether our children are with us supporting us throughout this time, or have disassociated themselves from you and/or disbelieve you concerning the AD's condition, you deserve to know that you are loved, and that this day is our special day.

Try not to think about our problems today - they will still be there tomorrow! Try to give yourself a special day if your kids don't! :)

My husband doesn't even realize what Mother's Day is any more! That's okay - he won't know Father's Day either! For all his kids will do for him (and he's like a kid when he gets a present) he won't understand why they are doing it.

To all the wonderful women who post on Joan’s site, I wish you all a Happy Mothers day and my hope is that you will find some respite from your weary duty today. All of you (mothers or not) are an inspiration to me as you care for your stricken spouses.
I leave you with love and peace.

My husband isn't anywhere near as badly off as some of the LOs, but he didn't understand what was going on with my birthday last month, and he doesn't know why my daughter sent me Mother's day cards.
