hi everyone. i noticed so many of us have issues with oral care for AD spouses who wont brush. there is a product from SAGE that are tiny 4in disposable sponges on a stick that are minty flavored for swabbing and cleansing teeth/gums and are used by hospice- they work really well! they use them on DH instead of brushing during showers. you can purchase a bag of 250 pieces thru joans link to amazon for about 30dol. these are good options if your spouse doesnt brush- just wet the sponge swab-swab over gums/teeth and dispose- i even add a small dab of toothpaste sometimes. very soft and non irritating to gums. hope this helps - i wanted to pass this info on as i too was desperate in earlier stages how to get their teeth clean. divvi ps Called TOOTHETTE DISPOSABLE SWAB-by Sage at amazon
My DW is now in a nursing home that has a visiting dentist that specializes in Seniors. Carol is due her 6 onth cleaning and I am just wondering how she will handle it now. It was hard on her 6 months ago when I took her to the local dentist. She has severe gum disease, generalized plaque and sever tarter.
I am going to ask the RN about the swabs. Sounds like a good idea for daily use. bill
