My DH has not slept well for a long time. He is 81 and has had AL for at least 15 years. Stage 6 or 7.
He has been waking me (we sleep in separate bedrooms) many times, but a couple of weeks ago it got very bad, waking me 12 times one night. When we had our regular visit with the neurologist he recommended giving Ambien a try. It's working! With no side effects I can see. I actually get to sleep 6 to 7 hours at night. I feel better. Hope it continues to work so well.
Glad it is working!--Ambien causes hallucinations for some people. My husband takes clonidine to quiet his mind (has taken that for many years--commonly prescribed for people with ADHD), clonazepam (for REM sleep behavior disorder) and melatonin (also recommended for REM sleep behavior disorder). He still doesn't sleep well, but we have separate bedrooms and he isn't yet to the stage where he needs me. A lot of it is bad habits he refuses to change--he stays up late and falls asleep in front of the TV.
