can a spouse who is a certified nurses asst be paid as a caregiver? from the long ter care insurance policy? my husband has 200 per day that can be used for nursing care. If I was to go to school for cna can I collect like a job since I am home caregiving anyway?
You have to read the policy or call the company to find out. My husband's policy specifically says that the paid caregiver CANNOT be a family member. I recommend that everyone with a policy read and understand it thoroughly. The claims person that I work with at the ins. co. couldn't be nicer or more conciensious; but even she told me at first that caregiver training for me was not covered. Then I directed her to the specific page of the policy that said it was; I was then reimbursed by them for attending an Alz Assn conference (had to get a letter from his neuro saying it would benefit Steve if I would attend).
If you are in need of extra income, see if the policy pays a "per diem" rate. For example, some policies pay a set amount per day (i.e. the $200) as long a qualifying service is used--as little as 1 hour with an aide or 1 hour at daycare. Thus, the amount you receive can exceed what you are laying out in expenses. It just depends how the policy is written--some only cover your actual expenses.
can monies be used for supplies such as Depends, ensure, cleaning products A(bathing) etc. My policy states 200 per day if I use 87 a day at daycare can I use the other 113 dollars?
The way our policy is written, if he uses a covered service, I can spend the rest however I want. I believe some policies require bills to be submitted and then they only pay the amount that was spent. Why don't you call the company tomorrow and discuss it with them? Also, check to see if any home modifications to help your husband are covered.
