I have noticed that my husband's fingernails are blue around the cuticle area. It seems to be more noticeable on his left hand. Any one else seen this?
You do need to call his doctor about this. That is definitely a circulation problem. Are his feet bluish as well? That was one of the things Hospice instructed me to watch for with my DH.
Fingernail symtoms: 1. Red fingernails- mean that he has been eating pistachios again. 2. Black fingernails- either hit them with a hammer, working on a car, or digging in the dirt. 3. Orange fingernails- eating too many Cheetos. 4. Blue fingernails- better check the toilet and the tidybowl dispenser. 5. Brown fingernails..better check his depends.
What to do it your fingersnails are: 1. red - drink wine to go with the nuts 2. black - wash until clean and bandage them if necessary 3. orange - lick them until all orange is gone! 4. blue - rub vigorously and if they stay blue, call the doctor 5. brown - take a hot, scalding shower and use lots of soap! 6. green - come help me with my flower beds!
I just hope someone can remember what to do for different colors....just imagine what happens if you have a color and do the wrong thing....hmmm like mistaking brown for orange. What if you are colorblind! The easiest solution is to follow rule nr 1....drink wine...no matter what color the fingers are...
I called the doctor today about my husbands nails, however, I had to leave a message. I mentioned the blue nails to the nurse at Daycare, she said, she would test his oxygen level, if it was under 90 she would call me...she didn't call so I am assuming it wasn't. I am calling the doctor again tomorrow for an appointment, just in case.
From time to time I notice my husband's feet are quite blue - sometimes more purply-blue. I just contribute this colouration to maybe sitting too long without moving his feet around or walking.
For those of us whose loved ones tend to sit most of the day either dozing or in front of the TV - maybe we should be making sure they get up and walk around the room a time or two eh?
I do make sure, when my husband is sitting in front of the TV/dozing, that he is in his recliner with the chair reclined so his feet are up.
