DH has been just about the same over the past few years. Just last week he began to ask me about certain pieces of furniture, drapes, etc. in the house. He looked at the grandfather clock that he bought years ago and asked, "When did you buy this"? Same with a valance in our den. This morning we went out and bought him a new recliner - the seat is higher than the usual ones and he can get up out of it easier. It was delivered and he was delighted with it. After lunch he went back into the den and asked where the chair came from and how long we had had it! Tonight at dinner he asked me how long we had been married and if we had any children.
I am sorry to hear you are facing this new stage - I know my time is coming. Each new stage is difficult. I think what you are seeing is more deterioration of the hippocampus, the part of the brain that stores short term memory. Last year I attended a conference that showed the progression of deterioration of the hippocampus, and as the disease progressed, that part of the brain was literally, a black hole. No new memories could be made or stored. I find that is happening to Sid more and more, although not to the extent you describe.
Vickie,, it is sounding as though DH is having more issues lately- this is how things began with my DH as well progressive losses at a slow rate. then a plateau again- sometimes new dosings of meds can help -you may want to ask the dr and let him know hes showing signs of decline. each new step is a challenge. divvi
Thanks, Joan and divvi. I know you have your own problems! We see the Dr. in February and I keep a log of EVERYTHING. His Dr. is very good with both DH and I. Now, today, he has been very clear - except he set his glasses down and put his laptop on them and broke them! LOL One more issue to deal with tomorrow. Oh well, tomorrow is another day....
Vickie, my DH asks me every so often: "When did we come back to this house?" We have lived here for 44 years! He has this feeling of leaving here and one of his relatives living here while we were gone, and then we returned, but he doesn't know when. So strange.....
They are realizing that they can't remember and are asking for confirmation of the facts, and some will do it over and over again until you want to pull your hair out. Some suggest changing your wording of your reply to see if that is the answer that will "stick" -
Vickie, if all you have to replace is glasses, you will be fortunate.....I had to repair or replace: the vacuum cleaner, dishwasher, garbage disposal, the ceiling fan, etc. THEN I had to "fix" the computer every night when I got home because he would try to get somewhere and couldn't and deleted icons and programs, and lost the line at the bottom of the page regularly (this stage lasted about six months)....This is where you earn your stars, dear friend!
