Well, things have been....interesting. On Wednesday, DMV sent the letter taking DH's drivers license. He was at first very upset, and called to appeal. But then went into a deep depression. He lost the privilege as of 12-25. He is very withdrawn, and I can tell he is unhappy. I started trying to help the situation by being more attentive, and just babying him a bit, but that can really backfire. He has said that I might as well get used to the idea that when he wants to go, I'm taking him...wherever, whenever! We live 30 minutes from town, so ought to be interesting. The good thing is, this was going to happen sooner or later, and now it is done and we can just deal with it. Again, thanks for your support and comments, it always helps to have people who understand!
Good attitude: what's done is done; deal w/it. And, it had to be done, so there. :) We live 7 miles from a small town; 45 from next larger, and I agreed to take him when, where he wanted when he lost his license. Hasn't wanted to go much and never to the larger town. Maybe it's being overwhelmed like in a candy store and you can have any and all you want, and then all the choices don't look that appealing. We can do what's necessary.
MimiS: I went thru the same situation a year ago. My DW was terrible for a couple of months, then just kind of forgot about it. Hope the same happens for you.
Isn't it amazing how similar all of our experiences are on this website. Enjoyed your posting.
I had similar experiences with the driving bit: it was sheer hell while it lasted, but once the decision was made, there was very little fuss or bother.
After his license was pulled my husband remarked about how many of the wives were driving their husbands around. Turned out to be a good face saving mechanism.
Mine was furious when he failed the reaction test at the neuro's office, 10 mos later he still reminds me to brake, signal, turn, stop, go, look, etc, but at least he isn't complaining, lol!
Claude's old truck quit running back in 1997 and he voluntarily decided then to quit driving. He was 75 at the time. His Oklahoma license was current until we moved to Texas in 2000. They asked him if he wanted a Texas license and he said no, he didn't drive anymore.
He never really liked to drive much anyway, so I always did the driving.
We had other battles, but driving wasn't one of them. LOL
