My DW has started to lean to the right. She has been shuffling and leaning forward for several months but is now leaning when she is sitting and even some when she is walking. I assume this is normal but thought yall might give me some advise.
My niece suggested that there might be some kind of therapy that we could do at home that would help. She is having increased trouble even getting up out of her recliner.
My husband does the same thing...leans to the right. Even in the recliner he leans on his right side. I have noticed the patients at the Adult Daycare also lean in the chairs if there are arms. I guess it is just another symptom.
I think this is to be expected. Paul leaned to his right usually except in the car he leaned to the left. Did that for some time. He also had a little droop to the right with his mouth during the last couple weeks. We think he may have had a mini-stroke.
Bob leaned to his right and said it hurt , we had accupunture done on him and he straighted out for awhile but got bad again and couldn`t walk without falling, hench the nh, come to think of it it happened quite a few times during the last few years, didn`t think it had to do with his illness but then it has made me think, his death cert. says advanced vascular dementia, doesn`t that have to do with strokes?
My DH is doing the same thing, leaning to the right...and it is also getting very hard for him to get out of his recliner..he is up to 180lb...I try to help him get up, but I am afraid that he will fall on top of me....he has fallen in the bathroom 3 times...got bruised up, but no bleeding or broken bones....so far...I find it is getting harder for me to handle him...Had a new caregiver come in last week, thought she could help him with a shower, but he refused...don't know if that will work out, with time..he is showing signs of going downhill..
RB23 now is when you need the lift chair. I bought a used one that looked like new for $300. I put it back in the bedroom after DH passed because it looks like a nice upholstered chair. You may get yourself down in the back by tugging on him. It worked for me to get stern with him by telling me the Doctor said he had to do this...that etc. Some sort of bribery maybe. Its tough.
After a confirmed TIA in March 2007, my DH has had an ongoing lean to the right. It's worse when he's physically tired out or when just tired. When physically tired out he often also walks with knees partially bent--looks like about to collapse. His DX is Vascular Dementia. Yes, marygail*---VaD is related to Strokes and Heart Attacks.
Therapy works for balance and muscle strength but this is nerve signals being impaired, and while some improvement may appear for a bit, it doesn't stick.
When my husband was still doing the 2 hours walks, he sometimes came home leaning to the right. It happened when he was very tired. He no longer does the walks, but if he gets overtired it happens. At this point it is not chronic. But it sounds like it is one of the regular symptoms.
DW does this, but I use a thing called a chi machine to help with the spine align. It sounds stupid, but it works. You lay on the floor with your feet in this machine, it moves your feet and your spine, you relax and it helps your muscle relax that causes you to lean toward one side.
Charlie is in a wheel chair and he leans extremely to the right, especially when he is tired. They tried physical therapy. They do therapy in the mornings and apparently he wasn't tired enough. They sat him on the therapy table with a goal for him to sit there for 3 minutes before he started to lean. He sat there for half an hour. Every time!
