Today I met with the hospice Chaplain. She is a lovely lady who calls me on a regular basis. We sat with my husband together and I was glad she was with us. On my way out she gave me a framed picture of my husband taken with a santa hat in from of the Christmas tree. Hospice had taken pictures of all their clients to be given to the families. When I told her it would most likely be the last picture taken of my husband tears filled her eyes.
What a wonderful gesture from Hospice! Most of the Hospice people I have met here have been outstanding, loving, thoughtful, and helpful. I can't compliment them enough. You are fortunate with the ones helping you and your husband!
I hope that your visit with your husband today was a good one for you. He has so many ups and downs, and it's so hard when you see him on a down day, to have to remember him that way until you go back on a "good" day. It breaks your heart.
Bluedaze, Hospice is such a comfort during the hard days! That little gesture of a photo means so much. Your husband is indeed in very caring hands. Peace, Susan
Isn't it true that when someone does something nice for us--even the simplest of things--we can really appreciate it. In my "former life" I probably would have only given a passing thought to some of the kindnesses people show.
Linda, the business manager of Claude's hospice was a professional photographer in a former life. She offered to come to the house and take a group picture of the four of us. That was something we had talked about for years but never did.
Unfortunately, he declined rapidly and we were never able to get the picture taken. After he passed on, she contacted our daughter and they picked out several pictures of him and us which are very meaningful. She copied and arranged them into a 11x17 collage which she framed and they presented to us.
It means so much to me. I have it hanging on the wall beside my bed where I can see if when I go to bed and when I wake up. Like Marilyn and Bluedaze said, the simplest kindnesses mean so much.
