I've decided that I can't enjoy the holidays with my 4 and 2 year old grandchildren when my husband is here. He can't deal with all the excitement. We will celebrate quietly by ourselves and then I will take him to the ALF on Christmas Eve. I will pick him up late Christmas day or the following day.

Diane, each of us has dealt with the ups and downs of holidays with the dementia devil. Your husband will probably be happier at respite, mine was last year. This year he is different and wants to be here. Who knows what next year will bring. Good for you for doing what is best for all of your family. Merry Christmas!

    Diane T,

Good for you. I applaud you for making a very reasonable decision that will benefit all of you. It IS a personal decision, and not everyone will agree with it, but I always say that each person knows what is best for them and their loved one.

Good for you, Diane. We do what looks best for all at the moment. The time that your grandchildren are two years old and four years old will never return. Enjoy!

Diane, enjoy your grandchildren. Jeanette is right, you can't get those precious years with them back.

Diane you have done the appropriate thing. When my grands come to stay I usually rent a vacation home (short term rental) some where close by and take them there. That way they can visit PAPA but they are not subjected to his mood swings and outburts, and he is not make upset by the change in routines. Merry Christmas enjoy.

That sounds like an ideal solution, Shellseeker.
