I didn't want to go through getting a plumber to install a new toilet. At the zoo I noticed that one toilet had a riser between the seat and the toilet, and searched for it online. FOund it at Amazon, $62.90. Daughter J. removed the old seat, put this one down, replaced the old seat and screwed in the new long bolts to hold it in about 15 minutes (some of which was looking for a wide screwdriver). It is SO nice for ME, with my damnedknee, to sit on, and my husband didn't mind it at all last night. It stays on "permanently", though obviously we could remove it with no problem.

I've had 2 of them for a while. I also have bad knees, and was having difficulty getting up from that low toilet. I bought one, and got the other from the VA as part of a home safety package they gave me for my DH. I also got bars for shower, wall by toilet, bed bars, to help him pull himself up a walker, & a wheelchair. If your spouse is a vet, its worth while contacting them.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have a raised toilet seat that just sits on the toilet bowl but was looking for something a bit more stable. Thanks for the suggestion. I have two knee replacements which need replacing so this would be helpful.

A friendly reminder - If you are going to buy something from Amazon or The Alzheimer's Store, please go through the links on the right side of my home page - www.thealzheimerspouse.com. This website receives a tiny commission on everything purchased through those links, and every little bit helps keep the site going. The toilet seat link with the website's code embedded in it is:

i have the regular lumex platinum padded shower/commode seat on 4legs and its adjustable in height. i have 2 one for DH to use while i undress him or he needs to 'go' and one for the shower stall to bath him on. they are terrific and padded with arms/backs so he is quite comfy- it has a potty underneath and is easy to use/clean-i found it is a very good one if you need lots of height as hes 6'1' and his feet will dangle off the floor when in full up postions. there are several heights to choose from- he can stand and sit by himself so easily on this one . i paid about 115dol for each of mine.
i highly recommend them esp to shower with . divvi

Joan, can my DIL (who has free shipping and handles all my Amazon purchases, which by the way are not many, using my credit card) use your links as well?
