There is a new device being marketed for tracking people with AD BEFORE they get lost and you have to find them. I am interested to know if anyone has any first hand knowledge of this. I would also like to know your opinion on it. Yes, I saw that in an email from alz.org. I don't have a guy who wanders, so I'm not anxious to initiate monthly charges unnecessarily, but I'm very interested in the potential of this technology for travel use. If I misplace Jeff in town here, everyone knows him. Anywhere else would be frightening.
The idea behind the technology is to give the person with AD more independence to walk, drive (YIKES!) and be on their own as long as possible. You would be able to "track" their movements, so at any given time, you could check and see where they were walking, and I think there is a way to call them to give them directions if they are getting lost. It's more preventative than the Silver Alert and Project Lifesaver, which are activated after the person is already lost.
Yes, I just purchased the Comfort Zone device. We've only used it for two days. I think it is quite incredible. The article is very good. I work full time and, even though my husband is in a day program for about 20 hours a week, he still walks the dog and is still alone a few hours a day. He hasn't wandered yet, but.....why wait until something happens and wish I had done something? I can monitor his location from work. And, they can get "lost" doing very familiar things, like going to the mailbox, etc. I have put it on his belt. I don't believe it would be easy for him to remove.
