Kathryn and I celebrated our anniversary on November 11th. I had been reminding her it was coming and she was very ready for it. She was up everyday and dressed and ready to go for a week ahead of time. I let her pack her suitcase while I packed our suitcase. All I can say is she would not have run out of under things for months but that is all she would have been wearing. We went out shopping a day ahead to get each others gifts. This was really difficult for her. She just could not make a decision about what to get me. I finally asked her if I could help and she said please. I told her I would like some golf balls. I asked her what she would like and she said she would like a new pillow (ever try to gift rap a pillow).

I reserved the same room we had on our honeymoon in advance. We got to the hotel, checked in and went to the room and when she saw that it was the same room she cried. I asked her what was wrong and all she could say was she loved me and wanted to get in the hot tub (it was heart shaped).

I think she really had a great time. I know I did. It was the happiest I have seen her in a long time (she doesn’t smile much anymore). We went for walks on the beach and gave the seagulls cheerios. Turns out they really like them and Kathryn really liked feeding them too.

Kathryn seemed to be afraid of the water and didn’t want to go it even a short way in the shallow water. We went to a fish place for dinner where she had salmon (which she dearly loves). When we returned to the room we got in the hot tub watched NCIS on TV.

It was great to see her have such a good time.

Wow, Jim, I can just see that suitcase full of underwear. Reminds me of my little grandson when they were planning to come to Holland to see us. Months before they were supposed to fly, his Mom couldn't find any underwear in Benny's chest of drawers and he finally told her he had packed it ALL in his backpack.

I'm glad you both had such a good time!

Life is short. But being on this site has made me realize that mine and Kathryn’s life together is going to be even shorter so I try very hard to take the time to remember all the good times we share. I know that they will be what I have for the rest of my life when I no longer have Kathryn to share times with and I intend to have as many as we can to hold on to.

Anyway, here are some things I did to prepare Kathryn for our anniversary:

    1. I started telling her every day it was coming about a month and a half before it got here.
    2. A few days before it arrived I took her out and we got each other gifts. I pretty much had to pick mine because she just couldn’t decide. But I could she that she was trying very hard to pick it and that is what counts after all, the thought.
    3. About a week before I started telling her each day that we were going on a short trip. There was a small problem with this. She got ready everyday to go. When I would get home from work she would be sitting in her chair waiting to leave. I simply told were it wasn’t today and told her how many more days it would be before the trip and she would say ok and go back to watching her favorite shows.
    4. The night before I let her pack her suitcase (see above) while I packed the one we would take with us.

This worked well and we both had a good time. I hope that this information on how I planned our trip helps someone better enjoy their anniversary or birthday or any other special day you have coming up.

Jim thank you so much for sharing your wonderful story. Our anniversary is on the 29th of this month. We have always gone away to the same Inn since our honeymoon. This year with DH in the NH we will just go out to dinner on Sunday afternoon. All the same I am really looking forward to it. Thanks for the tips! And Happy Anniversary.
    Arms around, Susan

Congratulations, Jim! You didn't tell us which anniversary this was. Mary and I "celebrated" our 36th on November 17. We didn't have a second honeymoon, but on Sunday we were able to renew our vows. She wasn't sure what was going on, but afterwards we received alot of support from the other parishioners.

Thanks all, It was our 9th Anniversary. It took us 48 years to find each other. Nobody ever thought either of us woould ever get married. And neither of us were looking to get married when we met. We were just looking for someone to spend time with and the next thing we knew I took Kathryn to London and asked her to marry me. She had no choice but to say yes. The tickets were in my suit case and it was a long swim home. Ha Ha.
