This week, for the first time, my husband began to talk to and interact with the guy in the mirror. He recognizes that the woman in the mirror is me, but doesn't accept that the man in the mirror is him.
He insisted I go into the bathroom so he could show me the man in the mirror last night. He warned me that there would be people in the bathroom when I took my shower this morning.
He is early stage 6. No real physical stage 6 symptoms yet. Lots of cognitive and speech stage 6 symptoms. The really early shower symptoms - adjusting water temp and I don't think he actually washed today. He has been letting me start the water but he won't let me be in the bathroom with him while he washes.
Is stage 6 when the man in the mirror stuff starts?
Starling, I think it was in early stage 6 when my dh first started talking with the man in the mirror. Sometimes he sneaks into the bathroom to try to get there without the other man being there. (Never does work. LOL)
Just wait until he starts cussing that man in the mirror while you are trying to get him ready to get in the shower. My DH has not been able to shower for several months and it is the hardest chore I have to do. When it's over the floor and I are wet. He can't even dry himself with the towel. We have had the men in the mirror for about 5 months and that is when he stopped accusing me of entertaining the kid across the street.
My husband is in early stage 6 and he hasn't talked to the man in the mirror yet but he is upset when he sees himself in the mirror. I am worried about the discussions starting. I have two walls of mirrors in my bathroom.
i think so maybe early stage 6as well- it seems to hit differently for some, some are entertaining themselves with the images and others become aggressive towards them. i think too some just by pass the images all together and move into something else. nothing is for sure thats for sure! divvi
I've been calling my husband early stage 6 for a while, but probably because it isn't Alzheimer's he was only having the speech and some cognitive symptoms, but none of the physical ones. However, he definitely has the early shower symptoms (not adjusting water and beginning to have problems doing the shower alone) and now the man in the mirror symptom. As strange as it sounds it will be easier to get some help with him now that I've got more stuff to explain to the Care Manager who is coming on Tuesday morning.
