Do you know of any day care facilities over there in Sebring? A friend who is now in an ALF there needs respite time.

    PrisR,

Go to my homepage - www.thealzheimerspouse.com - and scroll down on the left side until you come to the ElderCare Locator Link - It says - Find Elder Care Services in your area. Click that on, and put in the State and city and/or zip code, and you should find what you are looking for.

Unfortunately, there are no daycare facilities that I know of///The SunRoom closed a few years ago..Respite here means sitting on the bench at Walmart and waiting for your loved one to come out....
  3.
Thanks, I was afraid of that.

Years ago before I knew what AD was I was a home health nurse on Anna Maria on the gulf coast of Florida. Several wives would drop their husbands off at a local bar on the beach and pay the friendly bar tender to watch over their husbands and slowly dole out beer. It worked!

Bluedaze, I wish I knew a bar like that where DH would like to go! But he'd be bored stiff, he always wants to leave a place the moment we finish eating/drinking.
One of the cafe-restaurants where we go is near a nursing home, and a lady (AD patient) that I know slightly was allowed to walk over there every afternoon and have a shot of Dutch gin. She would pay for it and ask for another, but was never given a second one. So she would just go back home. I don't know how long that lasted, but sadly she has progressed to a point where she is no longer allowed to go out alone.

I'll make it 5 if I can drink wine - or I could just chug Bailey's Irish Cream out of the bottle. LOL

I'll be number 6 and I'm with buzzelena!

I've forgotten why we're sitting on this bench, but it sounds like a party, so I'll be there with a big jug of Captain Morgan Private Stock spiced rum and a coolerful of cokes to mix it with. Who's bringing the pistachios?

D'ya suppose we could get Walmart to move some comfortable chairs/recliners over so we'll all be more comfortable?
  9.
that reminds me of a time when Walmart had a line of recliners in the middle of the store. A tornado warning went off and we were asked to move to the middle of the store. Since my family was already there, we all sat down in the recliners and relaxed while the tornado passed about three blocks away!! No damage where we were, thank goodness!

Buzzelena--I liked your comment about Bailey's Irish Cream. I have to tell you a story. Years ago, my first husband and I, with our kids, went camping and trout fishing. We took our dog, a rescue that I had picked up off of the road (what else is new!). We had caught some trout. I took my cup of Bailey's Irish Cream, a camp cup, with me to the stream. The dog followed me. I set the cup beside me, and began cleaning the trout. I was into my job, not paying attention. Suddenly I became aware of the sound of "lap, lap, lap" beside me. I looked down, and the dog was finishing my cup of Bailey's! Oh, brother. A little later, we were going out of camp again, and I called the dog. She looked up at me with a bleary eyed look, and simply put her head back down and stayed in camp, drunk. Thankfully, she had no ill effects. After that, on her birthday, she always got just a tiny bit of Bailey's to celebrate.

If it were up to me, I'd choose somewhere other than Walmart for the atmosphere, but if you're all there, Walmart will be great. Tonight I don't much care what I drink. I'll bring anything alcoholic I can find in the house including the Nyquil and share with the rest of you.

I can see it now... our various LO's rambling around in Walmart without their 'watchers'.. Oh, can I pull up a sale priced off season lawn chair ? wheweeeee.. happily will sit and sip along..will bring some pretzels.

WalMart is probably the best place to have this "gathering". No one will notice a slew of demented individuals wandering the aisles and no would question a line of "sitters" in front of the store swilling beer.....Just another day at WallyWorld.....LOL!

Hope someone inside is watching my hb, he's taken to putting small items in his pocket--or putting on a jacket and walking out--latest episode. No wonder I'm stressed, worn out, and zapped after taking him w/me shopping. Forget what I came for in my hurry to get out. Wake me if I slobber or snore while we're sharing fellowship. Hope no one calls security; we're here raising awareness for Alzheimer's if anyone asks.

Yeah, Buzzelena. She lived to be 16 years old. A Dalmation cross with something else. I wonder if she lived that long due to the Baileys?!!

I'm leaving my DH home while we're sitting on the bench at Wal-Mart and I'll be drinking Starbuck's coffee. I'm picturing all this in my mind. What a sight!

I was just at Walmart, and I am shocked that all the benches were full.....I cannot believe word spread so quickly!...but there are folding chairs in Home Furnishings, aisle 13, and it's fairly close to the book section....

Attention Walmart shoppers: Will the person who parked the huge cruise ship in the parking lot please move it? It is taking up all the handicapped spaces. Thank you.

Somebody call the TV station. This would make a good human interest segment on the early news. I can see it now. The cable news stations might even pick it up. I think I'll get a haircut and maybe even put on some mascara. The ole lady wants to look good on camera.
