A lot of us now have I-Phones, or cell phones, I-Pods, laptops, Kindles, Blackberries, Flip cameras, etc. Please list your favorite and why you love it best!
I couldn't live without my cell phone. It has Chaperone so that I always know where my husband is. I got it the day he was diagnosed with AD. But I can't really say that I love it best! I'm even going to have to think on this one before answering! <grin>
I have an Iphone and I love it. It is great for travel...don't need to carry the laptop to check emails or surf the 'net! I would really be lost without it....
Have several gizmos but could do without all of them - EXCEPT OnStar. I wouldn't be without it. And just a plain cellphone that I keep in my pocket at all times.
I switched from a Palm Centro to an iPhone about a month ago. iPhone is the best. Among other things, I just uploaded my Japanese vocab words to a flashcard program which I can now practice with wherever I am. I've got conjugating dictionaries in French, Spanish, and Japanese, an excellent note-keeping program, weather anywhere, a compass, googlemaps, a restaurant-finder, not to mention all the usual things.
I have a Kindle, which I use when exercising on the elliptical trainer, because I can make the print large, it stays flat, and page-turning is easy.
I have considered a "partner" phone with tracking, to stick in my husband's pocket, but so far it has worked to hang onto him. He usually behaves.
My laptop! I can sit near to wherever the kids are and go online to relax. Second most unable to live without would be my cellphone. Whatever did we do before them, lol!
I live out in the country and there is no good hi speed solution. Till Now. I have a Celluar Router. It uses the 3G cell tower to provide a HiSpeed wired link or WiFi link to the home. It operates on 12vdc so I can take it along in the travel trailer and still get a good connection.
I couldn't live without a computer of one variety or another. But I do love my iTouch. I happily read novels on it at night in the dark. Currently I'm enjoying Middlemarch by George Eliot which is a sort of Jane Austen social comedy set in I believe 1829, written in 1869. Reading it slowly, savoring it. I have it formatted for Stanza which is a very good reader for the itouch/iphone, free.
My favorite would be the 50 caliber tranquilizer machine gun, capable of instantly sedating an elephant without any permanent harm, and a giant remote control with an alzheimer pause button.
My computer. I've had computers since 1983. For some reason I've never been a cell phone person, although I had one early. But it was always an emergency phone. I don't even turn it on most of the time. I considered a palm at one point, but what I wanted it for is as an ereader. Looks like that will be where I go next.
My sister gave me a digital photo keychain this past weekend. I think it will become a strong favorite when I get it loaded. My lap top is something I would find hard to live without right now. Cell phone has become really important to me too. When we first got cell phones in 2001 I barely ever used it. I'm still not a big cell phone user (i.e.not on it all the time), but don't know what I'd do without it.
A laptop is a perfect solution for an AD spouse! Our desktop was in the home office, I would go on it and in a few minutes, DH would be shadowing and asking what I was doing. Now I'm where he is, he can nap or watch TV and I'm online.
I like all kitchen gadgets and have most of them. I have a cell phone that does everything a cell phone can do. Problem is my cell phone doesn’t work right it has something they call has operator malfunction. Sprint doesn’t seem to be able to repair the problem either. I think it may be some kind of virus.
Frank, you made me laugh out loud. Dh came in here to see "who I was talking to." Thanks, that was great. (You see I don't have a laptop yet but you gals are tempting me.)
Jeanette, I bought myself a laptop - and DH promptly took it over! I still have my desktop though and he loves to play games on the laptop - all afternoon, most every day. So that is okay. I still like my desktop. LOL
Jeanette, I didn't name my Kindle, though I love it (New Realm, go to the Amazon site and click on the Kindle and it will show you and tell you all about it) because it isn't NECESSARY for me - in other words, I can do without it. I can't do without my laptop or cell phone....I want an IPhone, but they don't have chaperone on them, so as long as my husband is with me, it will have to wait.
I think we've all shown that our link to others is the most important and loved item by us. We truly do need each other, whether here, or by e-mail, or facebook or by phone!
Phranque, keep us posted on how you like Windows 7.
Oh, just realized I never posted on this thread. Would have to list computer first and cell phone second. Both allow a wide range of human contact and that is something I cannot live without.
