Joan, I sometimes marvel at how many here have LO's much further along than mine, yet they can and do travel together. My DH can do almost everything for himself and I can leave him for 3-4 hours and he's okay. However, that works only in our own home! He just cannot travel - at all. He gets physically sick (let alone, mentally) and is completely off-kilter. It's like he slips several stages and it takes weeks/months to get him back on track. Thank goodness we did travel throughout our 36 years of marriage - lots of it and truly enjoyed it. But those days are gone forever for us.

For me I see the end of the dream of Workamping and traveling. Since he can't really work, I would have to look just for work for me which there is, but then I would feel guilty cause he can't work and would have to sit in the motorhome while I work. Catch 22 I guess.

We are still accessing how much traveling we can do. He said today he is over missing the shop to tinker in and adjusted to TV, word searching and walking. They say it takes 28 days to change and it has been that since we left my sister's.

Well, there's the travel we do now vs. the travel we used to do. It's not the same, but I'm thankful we can still go. On our recent trip, I was mindful of DH not overextending himself; I carried snacks with us wherever we went; I found that when we came home, I was pooped! Probably because I am used to respite at home, but this was 10 days without any respite, jet lag, being on the go, etc. I really think it is helpful to go with other people (we did not), or if the budget will allow--to pay for a friend or an aide to accompany you. That way, responsibility can be shared and it can be more of a relaxing experience for the caregiver.

I have to agree with Marilyn. It was nearly a year ago that we did a two week cruise..we both truly enjoyed it, but it was frustrating as G didn't want to leave the ship..I was furious when he wouldn't go walking in Bermuda. two days and nada!

This fall we went to a local destination resort for a few days and had a friend with us just for companionship..I thought! I truly don't know how I would have managed without her. SHe is a self starter and just did things with g..also nice to have a live in sous chef when company comes. The time there would have been a mess without her..and I truly hadn't considered that. Oh well..no more traveling here. Large sigh!
