I noticed after my husband peed this morning there was blood on the side of the toilet bowl. I called the doctor & he has a 11:20 appointment. My question is how can I get him to pee in a cup? He is also going to be checked for the red/blue patch on his butt, that I have been treating for the last 2 weeks, that is better, but not well. Suggestions, on how to get him to pee are most welcome.
I put a bowl in the toilet and then gave drinks till dh needed to go ,then took a sample from the bowl when I needed to provide a specimen .Others might have different ideas .Hope things go well with the docs appt hugs Rosie
rosie gave a good idea but i just go with him to the bathroom and hold the specimen cup into the stream to catch some about mid way into peeing. lots of fluids kadee!! i am glad you are getting him in -that butt infection will be looked at too. good luck. divvi
We just came back from the doctor. My husband would not pee in the cup, I had pushed water right before we left home, & the nurse gave him water...still no go. One good thing, he did let the doctor look at his butt, I was prepared & had him wear jogging pants instead of jeans, I figured it would be easier to snatch them down. The butt infection is looking better, however, the doctor said it may take a month to heal. I bought a cup home for the pee & had...more like made him drink 3 glasses of water, he finally peed in the cup & finished in the toilet. I think the main problem with going in the cup, is that for the last couple years he sits down to pee & has forgot how to pee standing up. The doctor's office is closed from 12:00-1:00, I will take the cup back for the testing.
Kadee, they do make a collection back that fits over the penis and kind of sticks to the area around it. It is used alot for infants, children and elderly men. you might check at a med supply store and keep one on hand in case you need it again. Then you can just transfer the urine sample into a sterile container. My DH did the same thing with the blood in his urine but the urine was clean. It was just from his prostrate.
A few years ago, when my husband was unsuccessful in the doctor's request for a urine sample, we insisted he keep trying - she needed something in the cup. A little later, he came out of the little bathroom, so proud! He handed the cup to the nurse and said, "I flled your cup with water from the sink. Will this work?"
I have kept a little "hat" from last year when he had a UTI. It catches the urine before it gets to the water. Most medical supply companies sell them.
Kidney stone, prostate, straining too hard. Any blood thinning meds? It's not plesant but when necessary a temporary cath can be inserted to get a specimen. Has he complained of any pain? How about fever? Hopefully it's nothing serious. You're doing all the right things. Keep us informed. cs
He hasn't complained of pain & has no temperature. His Dad & Brother both suffer from kidney stones, so I know how painful they can be. The CT is scheduled for tomorrow.
Don't rule out Prostate gland problems - that also causes blood in the urine. My twelve year old grandson had blood in his urine, and it was traced to his enlarged prostate gland. Who would have thought a twelve year old would have that problem? I swear, the foods we feed our children have been produced with so many growth harmones and/or fertilizer, it's no wonder litle girls are maturing at age 9 and little 12 year old boys have enlarged prostate glands. I read that chicken (say Tyson's, Pilgrim's, etc.) go from being baby chicks to market in six weeks. Beef cattle feed is laced with growth harmones, vegetables are fed with fertilizers that bring the crop to harvest faster.
Back from getting the CT Scan...should have some results today. My husband couldn't follow the instructions about holding your breath, however, the tech thought the pictures were good enough for a reading. She let me stay in the room, with a apron on, standing at the side of the machine. He still is not complaining of pain, I have noticed after peeing there has been little blood clots in the water.
Mya, Thank you for asking. I haven't received the results, I am calling the doctor tomorrow. He still has blood in his urine, however, not every time is it visible, he does not complain of any pain. I would suggest that you do take your husband to the doctor.
adding my 2cents . any blood in urine is never a good sign even if a one time its still meaning something isnt right-. best to have them checked out. bladder, prostate, or kidneys could be involved when blood is present. safe than sorry so to say! divvi
You should always have blood in the urine checked out. This was the only symptom my husband had when he was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2004. Could be nothing, but it's better to have it checked out.
Blood in the urine was the only symptom my friends husband had when he was diagnosed with bladder cancer last year. That is why when I noticed the blood droplets I called the doctor. Blood is not always visible, but it is still there.
I received the results of the CT Scan. It was positive for Kidney Stones. He has an appointment with a urologist on Thursday. I have no clue what they will ask him to do. I did explain that he can follow no instructions. I am taking the CT Scan with me to the appointment. He still doesn't complain of pain, however, he keeps saying he doesn't feel well.
I sometimes think that some of our spouses don't recognize pain any more. I hope that they can use the machine to pulverize the stones so he can pass them rather than operate. Please keep us posted.
My husband had some blood in his urine for a week last month. The Urologist said it was probably a tear in his bladder. No damage, no infection. We were lucky.
