FDA: Philips Lifeline Issues Safety Alert For Lifeline Pendant Personal Help Buttons

The full article can be read at medicalnewstoday.com/araticles/164915.php

"The U.S. Food and Drug Administration cautioned users of personal emergency response buttons worn around the neck of a potential choking hazard associated with this product.

The FDA is aware of at least six reports between 1998 and 2009 of serious injury or death, including three deaths in the United States and one in Canada, from choking after the cord on the Philips Lifeline Personal Help Button became entangled on other objects worn around the neck."

    Vickie,

Thank you for posting that valuable information. I will put it on the home page under the Breaking News section.

I carry my panic button in a pocket. I do not wear it in bed. It sits on my night table.

The company I use also provides an elastic band for your wrist.

I carry my cellphone with me at all times, even when I go out to the mailbox. I am so clumsy I can and do trip over my own feet. LOL

My daughter is in a chat group where everyone posts at least a couple times of week. No one had heard from Jenny for about 10 days. Her sister posted last nite to tell the group that Jenny fell in her apartment, broke her hip and arm and laid there for over a week until the sister contacted the landlord and had him check.

Ironically, she wore a Lifeline Pendant for years and never used it, so last month when she had to economize, she cancelled it.

I have found I can slip my cellphone into the center of my Bra. Don't laugh! It fits snugly there and since most of my pants do not have pockets, it works for me. I was thinking of looking for a little phone pocket that I could hang around my neck, but it would bounce around and swing around. The bra thing works pretty well.

Phranque and Texas Joe...do NOT try this at home!

Wonder what happens if it gets switched to "vibrate" mode...

Phranque, it's in my BRA for God's sake!

Sometimes, any vibration at all would give me a thrill. sounds like a good idea, just don't know if there's room. I'd like to get one of these but aren't they terribly expensive monthly? I know if something happened to me, DH would have no idea what to do. I bought aphone for him with photos on it of our kids etc, but he has no idea how to use it, even though we've practiced umpteen times.

There are pre-paid phones that are quite reasonable to carry. With mine you add a card every 90 days and the cards start at $19.95. You can get the phones for around $20 and up, it's a TracFone. Gail
