DH was taken off Aricept AFTER the dr had phoned in a refill to RightSource, the Humana drug source. I just phoned them to see if I could return the unopened container and they said no. If anyone would like 90 pills, 10mg. each. send me an e-mail or reply on this message board. I'll be glad to send them, as I hate to see 100 bucks worth of pills go to waste. And of course, the main thing is that we're that much closer to the donut hold, since the provider's share is included in that first $2400. In this case it's $470! Glad we're close to the end of the year and he's hardly had any meds so far this year.

We have Humana also. I don't understand what is meant by the providers's share being included. Can you help me out.
  2.
I thought the $2400 that had to be spent before the donut hold was reached was only MY out-olf-pocket costs, but I guess it also includes what your insurer is paying. Doesn't seem fair, does it. I pd $100 for the 90-day supply of "Aricept. The total cost was $470 which means that Humana pd. $370. That total of $470 is what goes toward the $2400.

That's the same plan we have but I am still surprised at how they arrive at the out-of-pocket portion by including the provider's cost.

In Part D the first section is when you pay co-pays. When the "total" costs paid (co-pays plus what insurance pays) hit the top of that category, you go into the donut hole where you pay all, but they still track it through insurance so when you hit the top of that one, they pick back up and pay all.
We hit the third category the first week of July. DH's meds have cost over $8000 so far, the August total was over $2000, but that's because 2 of the expensive ones were filled on the 1st or 2nd and again on the 29th.
Thank Goodness for Medicaid, or we'd be in a world of hurt.

I have the Humana drug plan also. Guess they're going to make sure they get their money one way or another. I started that Right Source mail plan but have already decided I'd rather get mine locally. They screwed up a couple of times in a short time. Plus I can usually get some samples from my doctor that helps keep me further away from the donut hole. Jean gets his Namenda and Aricept from the V.A. so that is a great big help for us.

Glad you could use the Aricept, mammie. Today I'm going to fill the 9 mg Exelon script. Can't tell any difference w/lower dosage. Last night invited daughter & 2 granddaughters + 2 wk old grandson over as others in family were working or out of town. Hb helped set the table w/one-at-a-time directions. Made a salad for profoundly handicapped granddaughter and left it on the counter while I drove to pick up guests. When I returned hb was sitting at the table eating the salad! And I only had enough stuff for her salad. She has so many allergies, I was pleased to be able to do that. Oh, well. I was lamenting to daughter that hb can't remember he has to take meds every morning and night and has for a very long time; will say he's going to bed, but doesn't remember to take meds "on the way." She said, "Well, he has dementia." And I'm supposed to be the one that explains that to her lol. My family DOES accept and doesn't say "he's not so bad." That's another thing I can be thankful for.

We had Humana a year or so ago and tried Right Source, but found we could get 3 months locally for same price. An employee at local hospital spoke to a group yesterday and said Humana costs are going up again. We switched to Rx Advantage last year--it's working well so far. So many decisions, so much fine print...One member of group said she'd received a letter yesterday saying Secure Horizons was folding. Just what we "golden agers" need--more stuff to read and try to determine what's best for us.

Zibby, You learned the lesson I did on Sunday....husband ate 5 banana's, while I was cutting the grass, I am sure he ate 5 in row. Lesson Learned: Don't leave anything on the counter, that you do not want ate.

I bought lots of grapes on sale today and sneaked them into my (cool) walkin closet before dh saw them. He would devour the whole lot in an hour of constant eating.

My husband found a large bag of Oreo cookies as I was unloading the car following grocery shopping. By the time I had put everything away, he had finished the entire bagful. I would have gotten sick if I ate that many cookies. He didn't.

I appreciate so much knowing I'm not alone in all of this. Hb can eat tons of junk food when he can find it, but has little room for wholesome food at meal time. "I'm full." after 1/4 cup. So how can he NOT be full after he's eaten other stuff? Bet your hb, Nancy B, and mine could have an Oreo eating contest! Has never liked fruit or veggies.

    Zibby,

My husband will eat a little bit of a meal and announce "I'm full up" but don't let 8pm go by without his little bag of m&ms. I now tell him he has to finish his dinner or he will not get his m&ms at 8:00. It's like bribing a little kid.

Zibby, My DH never fails to brush his teeth after meals because he wants chewing gum. He may not know who I am at times but he never forgets his gum. He can't bathe and needs help dressing but he can shave and brush his teeth. Most of the time he eats pretty good but has to ask the name of the vegetables on his plate. If bribing works it's okay.

Zibby, my husband is not to the point that your's is, but I know it is coming pretty fast. He has an attention span of about 10 minutes. Altho with that said, he loves to pressure wash the house and carport. When doing that or something involving the use of water, he seems to be able to concentrate more on the task to be done. I don't understand it. On most other things it is one step instructions and then by the time he gets to where he is going he forgets what to do. I am sure that the move we made 5 weeks ago has something to do with the rapid decrease in his mental functions, but I have started him on MCT oil and now the Aricept. Hopefully soon there will be an improvement.

Zibby again, thank you so much.

I look forward to all of the post made on this site. I also like to face the worst well ahead of time to prepare myself and others. Depression is a huge part of the process but from there it makes me stronger. I hope all of you have a great day and God Bless all of you for giving your time to help all of us.

Mammie, now that you mention it, my DH is also pretty happy with tasks involving water. He will water plants inside and out, and doesn't even mind washing dishes: well, kind of. What happens is that when we finish having a meal or for instance something to drink, he will take HIS plate or glass to the sink, wash it carefully, dry it and put it away. (Yes, we DO have a dishwasher, but he doesn't put stuff in it anymore.) He'll never do MY dishes or the serving dishes.

But when he finishes a dessert left in the fridge, he WILL wash the serving dish, I think in an attempt to hide the fact that he's been eating. Since he usually doesn't put it away or puts it in the wrong place, he gives himself away every time. (I don't confront him with it after the fact anymore. I know the only way to keep him from eating something is to hide it.)

Sorry Joan, this thread was supposed to be about Free Aricept. Guess that topic is worked out for right now.

    NEW POSTING: Free!
    Aricept
    Namenda.
    Zocor
Anyone in the Donut Hole? 10 mg Aricept..and 10 mg Namenda.. Doctor has taken my husband off of both drugs and it would be a shame to throw them away. I must have about 500 Namenda tablets - 350 plus Aricept - and lots of Zocor.

Contact me via email. See profile. I hope this offer will truly help someone with the horrific costs of these medications.
    Love,
    Nancy
