Hi, all. For the 3rd or 4th time this year, I was in a deep sleep and my mind woke up but my body would not respond. Has anyone else had this? I know I don't get enough quality sleep as I am shark bait by 3 pm in the afternoon and can barely get to 9 pm.
I'm pretty sure that all of us have had this. From the sounds of your "3rd or 4th time this year" it is not happening every day or every week. That is a good thing. If it was happening that often I'd send you to your doctor.
I did therapy for a short while until I could not leave my husband for the 3 hours that it took to get there, talk, and get back. If you can figure out a way to do therapy that might be a good idea. (I think all of us need someone to talk to or we wouldn't be here.)
There are meditation techniques you can use to turn off your mind when it won't let you get back to sleep. There are books, cds, and classes.
If you need meds, ask your doctor for meds. I'm not taking any right now, but I would if I needed them.
Thanks, Starling, for your advice. I'm really afraid to take anything in case I have to drive to the ER. Last night I did remember an exercise I used to use when I was working and could do it in the breakroom for a few minutes to revive myself.
I have found that the very thing that I want to do in the evening - log on to this message board - is the very thing that keeps me up at all hours! (My mind starts reeling.) So....when I realize that I REALLY need to get some sleep, I will opt to read an interesting book - escapism. You can't win for losing! (I find myself snatching 15 minutes here and there during the day to catch up on this site.)
Former soulmate, that's my problem exactly. Here you are overwhelmed with new impressions, ideas, problems, possible solutions to your own problems, that it's sometimes difficult to go to sleep if I linger here till bedtime. And I often do.
I can't remember if I've said this here before or not. My therapist told me that there has actually been research that indicated that if you don't watch tv or use a computer for at least an hour before trying to go to sleep you will sleep better. She said it was something to do with the light from the tv and computer.
Janet, I'm not sure that's the case with me. I'm on the computer until about 9 p.m., then watch TV for about an hour or so - turn the light off, and I go to sleep immediately! Rarely have trouble sleeping.
Vickie, I'm not really sure about it either. I have trouble sleeping some nights and not others. It doesn't seem to matter if I have been on the computer or watching tv or not. I can't find any difference between the nights I sleep and those I don't.
