Well, you may have noticed I haven't posted much lately. Have been having a terrible time trying to read the posts and then respond. I FINALLY figured out how to enlarge the print on my computer and 'viola' I can read what's written.
Things are going ok here. I've had a social worker/therapist come out a couple of times to show me 'the tricks of the trade' for partial vision. There's a ton of stuff to remember--fortunately I can do that.
She put little raised stickers on my microwave (start, stop, seconds, etc. in different collors. (red for stop, green for start....)
She showed me how to count my money because I can't see well enough to know what denomination the bills are. Also the coins. Great information.
Next week she's going to show me a quick and easy way to organize my groceries in the cupboards.
The following week she's going to show me how to put on my makeup. I can't wait for that.
Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know I'm ok. DH is progressing downhill everyday. But, that's a story for another day.
Gotta run. Take care. Just wanted to update you all.
Mawsy, great to have you posting. Your social worker sounds like a treasure. Glad you're getting good help. I wish someone would show me a quick and easy way to organize my groceries! Post about dh as soon as you can.
Great to have you back. How wonderful that there are so many "tricks of the trade" to help you with your vision.
For anyone else who needs larger print, look on the bottom right side of your computer screen - it says 100%. To the left of that number is a magnifying glass with a "plus" sign in it. Keep clicking the plus sign until the print is large enough for you.
Mawzy, I have missed you! I'm glad you are back, and that you are getting assistance in how to manage. That is very good!
I haven't been posting this week either, and am really behind in reading posts. My husband is growing weaker, and I'm so tired these days that I don't have the energy after my morning showers for my husband and me, dressing both of us, getting him settled, going to work, coming home, helping with dinner, doing some housework and the dishes, and by the time I settle in my recliner at 8, I start dozing. I've been so busy at work that I haven't been able to get on there as I usually did. <sigh> My vitamins aren't working so well. Maybe next week will be better.
Mawzy, I've missed you also. I checked for an e-mail address to drop you a note asking if you were okay, but you don't have one listed, so I'm really glad you checked in. It's good that you're getting some help in adjusting to your decreasing vision. All those tips will make things easier, for sure. (((((hugs)))))
Glad to see you back, Mawzy. I was worried, too. Mary, slow down!! When you're overloaded at work, then SKIP THE HOUSEWORK AT HOME. REST as much as you can!!!
I was thinking this morning that you had not posted in awhile. I am so glad to hear from you and that you are getting help with the vision problems. My mother had macular degeneration and I know what you are going through.
I am not sure of your diagnosis, but it sounds pretty serious. I have macular degeneration - it is not progressing very fast and doesn't bother me much except at night. My diagnosis entitles me to use the books on tape at the library. I really enjoy them as I can't read at night. Maybe that is an option for you as well. They provide the machine and the tapes free. Good luck.
