Come Glow With Us is taking place again this year and we ask that you once again join us and also spread the word.

Come Glow With Us is a campaign started to shed a little light on the thousands of primary caregivers who give of their time and their compassion, to ease the journey of those they love.

In many cases their work is unnoticed, unappreciated, unpaid.
They toil day after day, often in isolation, suffering along with their loved ones.

They are the invisible victims of Alzheimer and other long term illness.

The Come Glow with Us campaign began in 2006 to mark the 100 anniversary of Dr Alois Alzheimer discovering the plaques and tangle traits of Alzheimer’s disease.

In response to our invitation “glowers” lit up the night skies from California to Florida, Vancouver to Newfoundland, (23 states and eight provinces were represented) as well as Ireland, England, Scotland and Australia.

This October 1 - we ask that you help us make the glow even brighter.
Place the spot light on caregivers and light up our lives, so we know you care about those who someday, may be caring for you.

All you need do is place one string of Christmas lights somewhere prominent, and plug them in at 8 pm October 1.
Every hour that night - new sets of lights will glow as the clock turns eight in each time zone.

Give us hope of a better tomorrow - show you care - Come Glow With Us.

You do not have to be a caregiver to take part - you just have to care.

Also want to invite you to log on to www.freewebs.com/alzheimerglowers. It’s a website set up by a caregiver in British Columbia, for Come Glow With Us. We are encouraging people to sign the guest book so everyone can keep track of how many people are going to “glow” this year.

I think I'll do this to. I've never heard of it.
  4.
bluedaze, I went to the website, (it's really hard to read), but can't find a place to sign the guest book???
  5.
    Great idea. Count me in!
  6.
Vickie I agree the website is cumbersome. By muddling around I did find the guest book. At the least I will put my lights on and if anyone asks why I will have a teaching moment.
  7.
I muddled too, and finally found a guest book for 2007. Doesn't matter if I sign or not - I'll "leave the lights on" for all of us!

What a great idea! I just copied and pasted to everyone on my email list, except DH's family, they've made it clear they don't care. I wonder if we can go to google earth and see the lights????

This is a great idea! Is it alright to post this on public forums? I'm having problems with the website. May I copy and paste?

    Thanks!

I've also copied and sent this to all those on my e-mail list that I thought would be interested--and some that I don't hear from often that probably aren't aware of hb's dx; so it gave me a reason to let them know. Have received several positive responses. Sent it to the mayor of our small town, too, w/suggestion he make a proclamation about it. Will send it to newspaper, too. (Small town)

November 1st is when the time changes.
  11.
All mine are packed away for Christmas, and the stores here don't have any yet. I did find several strings of battery operated lights I had put away - so I'll use those!
  12.
Big Lots has their Christmas stuff out already.
  13.
They didn't over the weekend here - might check them tomorrow though. Thanks.

I put out a string of lights before it got dark; then turned them on at 8 cst. Will bring them in in a few minutes. Friends in other towns that I e-mailed said they were going to put out lights. HB asked what I was doing and why. Had no comment when I told him. Saw an ad on TV for Exelon, and he asked if that's what I put on him. When I said, "Yes," he responded, "Good." I'm thinking, I can't tell that it's doing anything; you're still sliding downhill fairly rapidly. Oh, well, what is, is.
  14.
I've been glowing for almost an hour! DH wanted to know if it was Christmas!
  15.
Had my lights on for an hour. Wonder what the neighbors thought.

I wondered what my neighbors thought also, bluedaze. Was hoping one would ask - they didn't.
