As you know Bill has been at end stage for several years-near comatose. Today I found him sitting up at the table looking bright eyed and bushy tailed. Color good, smiling and his gorgeous blue eyes sparkling. He really looked happy to see me. He was able to open a sealed bottle of water and pour some into a cup without spilling a drop. He has been on thickened liquids and a pureed diet. I watched him carefully and he drank plain water with minimal choking. Next he helped himself to some Cheerios without dropping a one and happily munch on them with no problem. It is days like this that make me cry because I know that he is still in there-somewhere.

bluedaze, it's truly amazing when all the connections work and someone so out of it is suddenly "there" for a bit. I'm glad you had a good visit.

OMG, Nora! That's amazing! I don't understand this disease, either. It sucks, and that's it! I'm glad you got another gift from Bill. He loves you!

bluedaze, have any of his medications or treatments been changed or did this just happen? So strange.

Seroquel was a wonder drug for us when Bill was having such severe rages. As he became almost comatose I strongly advised we wean Bill off of the drug. Now he seems to have a few better days. I feel we must continue to advocate for our spouses to the end.

Nora....good for you. One of those special times that peek out in AD. Ann

I'm new here and had to make a comment. I will never understand this disease. I'm glad I can be here to help my DH but sometimes all I want to do is just want to cry.

I'm so happy for you that you had that special moment with your DH.

Oh, Janie, welcome to our group & I do hope you will be encouraged by ALL who are here...Crying is a given, I'm afraid....but as life goes along, perhaps you'll have some moments where you will see the humor and can laugh a bit as well...Not humor about the disease, there is none! BUT, humor in the day-to-day situations we find ourselves and our LO's in...mine keeps me smiling...mostly...But I do understand the crying as I have (and all of us have) had our fair share of that too! It doesn't seem to get "easier", but perhaps just not as often...if that makes any sense. Glad you are here! :)

Bluedaze, SO GLAD FOR YOU!! It is amazing that when they come off some of the meds, they are sooo different!! You may remember back in mid-May we took my DH off of 2 drugs & he was like a totally new human being...it just was like a fog had been lifted! SO HAPPY FOR YOU!! Keep up the great work!! :)

Wow, what a gift for you Bluedaze - a wide awake person who is aware. I totally agree that we must remain vigilant whether they are in our homes or placed. Sometimes the changes are subtle and other times the changes are a lot bigger.
