I'm proud today because I fixed a pesky leaking toilet in TWO places, replaced the flushing mechanisim properly AND reattached the downspout brace to the siding. I RULE!!! What are you proud of today? cs
  1.
Good for you, cs! I chickened out on the leaky toilet after all my water problems a couple of weeks ago - and called the plumber again today.

BUT...I installed a motion light on our front porch (to try to keep people from stealing our solar lights - and now overturning our fountain!). Of course, DH was right under the ladder telling me what to do! LOL

I finally tackled a huge brush pile that has been sitting along the driveway for months, since some friends came over and took out some trees for me (but did not complete the clean-up). DH grumbled and raged, didn't want me doing that instead of cycling with him, but when I just ignored him he eventually calmed down and helped cut branches into smaller pieces and fit them into container for pick-up (and I did go cycling with him again later). I didn't get the whole pile cleared but it feels good to have made a start.

I am super proud of both of us. We survived the "helpful" summer visit of his sister--she went home this last weekend, and inspite of her "help" he has been smoke free for 12 days now, PLUS he has had 4 direct chances to bum them or buy them and didn't. Today he had a neighbor take him to the gas station (I held my breath) and bought 2 34 oz. coffee mugs.
He's still telling me daily, "I want a cigarette", and asked last week, "How long do I have to do this?" but we are making progresss.

    I became the Great Communicator!
I held my temper in Court, (Diego's Custody ;o)
I had a "talk" with my Mom regarding her, ahem, helpful reminders. I gently explained to her that by constantly reminding me of what needs to be done, I only feel more pressure and if it keeps up I WILL CRACK! So instead I suggested that she keep a log of calls that 1. need to be returned, 2. the caller will call back, 2. paper work that is due, etc. This way I can choose what I have time for each day. I also, oh so carefully, suggested that there were calls that she could have taken care of for me, such as The Pajamas and Books Program for the boys. We missed out on it because I was at the hospital with DD and she never even thought to call herself! she agreed!
So cs - I agree, I rock too!
  2.
I kept my cool at the Honda agency today. My beloved Element was due for her oil change. Of course the mechanic-or tech as they are now called (can charge more) found all sorts of stuff that needed attention. I asked for and received a demonstration and explanation of what needed doing and felt confident in creating a plan of care. My service consultant (how do you like all these new titles?) was a woman who really knew her stuff.

Ladies, all of you rock! Pat yourselves on the back. I am proud of the fact that I finally got out the 12 foot stepladder and retrieved a pretty good-size tree limb that had fallen on the garage roof. Not a huge accomplishment but one I had been putting off, so it was good to get it done.

I am proud of myself for beginning reorganization of my bedroom so it makes a bit more sense. I am very proud of myself for immediately walking out to my "haven" tiny screened porch off my room as soon as I heard DH begin swearing in that horrible tone that sends chills up my spine. I closed the doors and was transported into a nature getaway with the sounds of tree frogs and no sounds from the house to be heard even though I was just steps away. This is exactly what I meant this little space to be but it is the first time I've used it. Good for me!

Oh, beanie baby collection - ouch. When we moved out of the house into the motorhome I had to make a choice between my beanie babies or my skunk collection - I chose the skunk collection. They are in storage at a sister's house and wish I could put them out (over 100), maybe someday I will have a place to put them.

Proud, but angry at DH!! Bought a motion sensor light and was waiting for our handy-man to come put it up out front. I went in to work for an hour this am. Came home and DH told me to go look at the front porch. The light was up - and correctly. BUT....he's not supposed to be on ladders. He had brought the ladder in from the garage (but it's only a small 5 step ladder with wide steps); and had put that light up! He was so proud of himself! I couldn't scold - told him how good a job it was. Then I also asked him what the doctor said about getting on ladders. He looked down and said "I'm not supposed to do that". I said yes, that's right - because if you fall and I'm not here (or if I am), there's no one to help you up and you might break something and have to go to the hospital. That did it - he said - ok I promise - no more ladders. We'll see. LOL At least the light is up and no harm done - this time.

vickie on top of the ladder fiddling with eletrical currents could get tricky as well. glad hes ok and all went well. can you put the ladder away out of view for future issues just to make sure he does orders!

  6.
divvi, this light is run off batteries - no electricity! I can't permanently put the ladder away because I need it!! I have to use it to change bulbs in our chandeliers, etc. (11 ft. ceilings); and to clean the overhead fan blades. He will always just stand below me like he's holding the ladder - but it doesn't need holding since it's a "step ladder" and very firm and safe. Oh well, all's well that ends well!

Just realized that it may sound strange to be proud of having bought something for myself but I was raised frugally and I've always found it hard to buy things, always needed dh's approval, which now is no longer very relevant. He had no objections to the new bike, by the way, and insisted on walking way into the village with me to the shop to pick it up (he hates walking)!
  7.
Good for you, Jeanette! You did deserve it!

I'm proud because I just reduced by auto and home insurance by $500 per year. Agent said in Dec. with some new programs coming out, he can reduce it even further!

I'm proud because I somehow managed to get my family out of our moldly house and into a nearby motel. Cried, in front of the manager, as I was trying to explain my situation and ended up tugging at his heart and he gave us a deal on an efficiancy unit with an adjoining room for the boys. It's going to take 10 day and a huge crew of workers to clean the house. We get the official numbers for the upper level from the cleaning company tomorrow. DD took the kittens in and I will have to drive back to our house daily to get the boys on and off the bus to keep things somewhat normal. They think this is a great adventure :o) We have the end units with a gorgeous view of Highland Lake. Mom and I sat with a glass of wine out of the front porch and enjoyed every minute of the sunset while listening to the boys color and giggle. Somehow we will make it through, not sure how, don't think the insurance will pay for this alternative space, but it wasn't worth another night of listening to Dylan try to breathe. I knew this morning that we had to get out. He sound so good already. I could also see Mom getting worse, this was probably what caused her pulmonary fibrosis to begin with, Jim's "COPD/Asthma is GONE since he moved out! I will be going to a lawyer as a neighbor has told us about the previous owner needing to pull up his very wet and moldy carpet! Can we all spell L A W S U I T!

In TExas there is a Disclosure Form that the Seller completes and in it he is asked if he is aware of any previous mold, mildew, etc. etc. in the house. If he clhck NO, you have a heckuva case. If you cannot locate that particular form, the attorneys and R.E. agents will have copies. Maybe this will be a blessing in disguise! Hard to think of blessings today, though...so file this away for 'later'.
    Hugs,...Nancy

I am proud that I put swapped my linens from a smaller closet to a larger one. Refolded them, arranged them and then got the label maker out and put labels in front of each stack. I have been putting that off. Will have to watch my DH as he likes to help by putting things up to surprise me :-)........

cs, I understand the lack of motivation in cooking for one. Good for you. I'm trying to do better in that department also.

Susan, what a relief to know you've left the mold behind and are in healthy quarters.

I'm proud today that I joined a pickleball club and had my first clinic today (coaching on game strategies, etc). Before the DX I seldom joined an activity (especially one meant for women and men) unless my DH went along with me. Now I am taking baby steps to build new activities in my life with or without him. (I did ask him if he would like to participate and he said "no".)
  11.
Good for you former. Staying home and being miserable will do nothing to halt the monster.
  12.
cs and folly*, you are not alone...my idea of cooking is putting a Stouffer's frozen dinner in the oven.

Hey! I gained 4 lbs. last week. 11 more and I've reached my goal.

former soulmate, what is pickleball? Spherical pickle?
  13.
Pickleball is a court game similar to tennis (but smaller court and easier). You use a paddle something like an oversize ping pong paddle and the ball is about the size of a baseball but is a wiffle ball. You usually play doubles. It is really a lot of fun. It started in Seattle and is now played all over the country. Seniors have particularly taken to it but it is even played in some school districts (cheaper to set up than tennis). I highly recommend it. It is a great stress buster! It also is a very social game. You can go by yourself - put your paddle on a designated shelf - as soon as 4 people show up - you are ready to meet new people and play. The club at this point has just over 500 members.

I learned how to make newsletters in gmail, graphics and all!!!

Went to a board meeting for the local land trust and basically got challenged to do it, so I came home and did it.

Did it, that is, AFTER I found my husband lying in bed, neatly covered up, lights on, with NOTHING on below the waist. With me gone, he had gotten up, gone to the bathroom, removed his whitie and his pj pants, defecated, and returned to bed, but couldn't figure out how to find another whitie (happened that we were between packages). I thought he did very well. He was very pleasant, if sleepy, about my rousing him to refresh his attire.

It's amazing what we can do if we try. I reinstalled a toilet but then had trouble with leaks. After a couple evenings of frustration and tears, I was able to stop the leaks. Replaced doorbell, light switch, and sprinkler heads. I was not however successful in adjusting the garage opener. I managed to get it so screwed up that the professionals out!

Someone told me to look at my handling household things as the "new norm" and not focus on the fact that DH used to do it and now can't.

I'm proud because I did something I didn't want to do. It sure wasn't easy but I pushed and pulled a heavy dresser over to a side wall after taking all the drawers out. Then I moved a twin bed into DH's bedroom It's surprising what you can push and drag when you have to. I have been sleeping in the adjourning room but due to my not being able to hear to good the time has come to sleep in DH's room. Maybe I want have as many clean up jobs in the bathroom if I get up when he does. How can he manage to wet his pajamas with Depends on? Frank where were you when I needed help pushing that darn furniture? Just like a man never there when you need them.

Bama, be carefuly moving that heavy stuff! If I have to move heavy furniture, I put a throw rug under it's legs (or whereever) and just pull it across the room. But I have hardwood floors, so makes it easy. Please take care of yourself.
