    I was invited this evening to attend a seminar put on by a medical Dr. here in Florida that practices alternitive meds. The seminar was in the use of Enbrel ( etanercept ) for the temporary reversal of AD .. Embrel is used primarily for rheumatoid arthritis. The Embrel is injected into the spine ( not directly into the spinal fluid ). and the procedjure is patented by a Dr. in California by the name of Dr. Edward Tobinick ( google his name ) anyway the Doc in Florida who now is licensed for the procujure to do the injections took a couple to California for the 1st injection ( the wife has AD ) and he had a video of her before the injection and 15 min. after... The lady seemed to be in the later stages of AD and after the injection was very notisibly improved.. We ( my brother was with me ) asked question ( there was also about 20 others ) and found out that the procejure has been going on about a year since the patent... the duration between injections very from 1-4 week intervals... the procejure is not covered by insurance and the price is about $ 700 to $ 900 per injection he would not give an exact figure........... Has anyone heard of this ???? I found it to be interesting and as I;m sure with all of us ,, we would do anything to reverse or end this dreadfull desease but as with anything thats not common practise... Buyer Beware..... I also want everyone to know that I have nothing to do with this and there is no personal gain for me except for passing on the info.... I will research this and hope someone here has any info for me ....

    Go to Alz Message board,Medicatios, very lengthy thread re Enbrel. Support your comment re "buyer beware". As we all would do anything to capture one moment of improvement, how this is being done is clearly questionable. Please go to the site to become more aware of the issues.

    Dear Dandee;

    I just read what I wrote yesterday. Sounds horrible.

    Meant it to mean,you have no need to be sorry about anything, ever. Tough to process all these boards for information. Have you seen the huge thread onthe Alz Message Board?

    Please do not pay his outrageous charges until more is learned about the results. Serious researchers are trying to validate the findings.

    Take care.

    scs..... I surely will not be spending money on such an unproven procedure... As I said in my first post,,,, Buyer beware,,, I must say I felt during the presentation that there was an air of huckster, witchdoctor... This all may turn out to be a wonderfull new development in dealing with AD,, but my feeling at this point from what I saw and what i;ve read, this may well be a fox trying the back door of the hen house..... my $ .02 ............. Dan

    My husband is being seen next Friday at the Alzheimers Clinic for his annual testing. I requested coming in early (3 months) due to the drastic changes. I was informed that a clinical study for Enbrel will be done at this location and my husband and I are being seen by the doctor in charge of the study to see if he meets the guidelines for the study. I have my fingers crossed. Have no idea when the study will begin as they didn't give me a date, but I'll be sure to ask next week. Perhaps there is a God!

    I asked my husband's doctor about Enbrel. He told me that it was too new and not enough study yet. He was also concerned that it had not gone to clinical trials yet. His next comment was even more interesting as he said that he had seen many things that looked promising for the first 15-20 people and did not help the next 100.

    His last comment was that the person doing the most talking is also one of the owners of the drug company that makes the drug so the "buyer beware" really makes sense.

    The person doing the most talking about enbrel has also been disciplined by the medical community for touting the same drug for a different application, when it wasn't doing any good at all. And I bet he isn't making nearly as much money off of his stock as he is from the whopping fees he charges the patients.

    Rae Ann, if there is a clinical trial for enbrel coming up, it isn't showing up yet at the central web site for clinical trials:

    http://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/home

    They usually have a trial posting there long before enrollment starts.
