I have read in past post where some of you have given Imodium D, was this just for diarrhea? My husband doesn't have diarrhea, but it is very soft & he poops at least 3 times a day. That is 3 times a day that he does not want to wipe. Which I know I should be & I am thankful that he goes in the toilet, but the struggle to get him to use toilet paper is another thing. He really doesn't eat that much, so I don't know why he needs to go so many times. ????
I gave it for quite some time, just one pill a day, to keep his stools formed, predictable. Don't know what meds yours is taking but probably they affect it. Then he started being constipated, since he started on the arthrotec equivalent (I did the same, getting constipated with the two generics) so I've cut it out unless he starts up again.
Wipe himself?? er, no... I figure I raised three kids and the first one didn't get out of poopy diapers until he was three, so what goes around comes around.. Go thru lots of toilet paper around here! Try the immodium!
Regarding wiping after pooping, DW hasn't done that for almost a year. I try to be with her every time she goes to the bathroom. If I see that she has pooped I get out a small wash cloth (available at Walmarts for not much) and wipe her. Then rinse off the cloth and toss it in the laundry. I have a bag with extra Depends and wash cloths in the car for use when we go to church, restaurants, etc.
I tried her on Imodium D, but felt it made her too constipated, so stopped it. She generally has formed, but soft, stools, with occasional unformed ones.
My Lo has always been plagued with diarrhea even before using any of the mct oils. Her doctor prescribed Immodium D. He said I could give her up to 8 a day if I had too. I never have. The most I ever gave was 3 in one day. I give her 1 a day in the morning. She also had several mini BM's a day too. The surgeon who performed her hemorrhoid surgery told me that she needed more fiber in her diet. He said to give her 1 heaping tablespoon of Metamucil at the same time every day. he also said that stools should be "big and fluffy". Since I started doing this she doesn't have diarrhea unless she is sick or it's too much oil. I also give her v-8 juice with extra fiber. I have made an effort to try to put more fiber in her diet, which at times can be hard which is why I use these supplements too. It takes about 2 or 3 weeks to get regulated with the Metamucil.
You could try giving him one Immodium d a day in the morning to see if it will help. Ask your doctor and pharmacist first to see if it would interfere with any other meds he is taking. My lo has been taking 1 Immodium a day for the past 2 years and it hasn't hurt her at all. If this doesn't work you could maybe try to add more fiber.
amelia-is your LO a spouse? Our site is for spouses only and we prefer to keep it that way. "
bluedaze,
No my Lo is not a spouse, she is someone that I care for. I didn't realize that this forum was for spouses only. I won't post here anymore and I'll leave it to the administrator to delete any posts of mine if she feels that they don't belong here.
My purpose here was to let people know about the results of using CO/MCT oil, or anything else, and any benefits or declines that we may have. I felt that if any of this information could help someone, then I was more than happy to post it in case it would help them with anything pertaining to their LO's, whether it was the oils or something else. I'm very familiar with documenting in detail because of my job, which I thought may help people who don't do this type of thing.I know that personally, I have been desperate to find some answers for questions, and I thought that if people could read some of the details of what we are trying to do, then it may answer some questions for them, one way or another. There aren't many places on the internet that people can go to and find answers to questions, that involve something more than the scientific explaination of this disease.
If anyone is interested in the ongoing results of CO and MCT oil for my lady, then you can read about it here:
I decided to give the Immodium a try. He went 6 times yesterday & 5 times already today. As I mentioned each time there is a struggle to get him to use toilet paper. It would just be easier if he would let me wipe him, but no, he won't. Of course he has a rash on his butt from not cleaning himself. The only medicine difference is the Tylenol #3 he is taking at bedtime for the pain in his leg. Does anyone know if this would cause him to have so many bowel movements? I am totally worn out mentally from dealing with this the last few days.
i dont give immodium every day but if DH has several bm in one day i would give him one chewable tablet. it works to keep him ok for a couple of days before another BM. i find this helpful if we have something planned that requires him to be with a caregiver aide or if we go out the worry is less he would need to use a public bathroom. kadee if hes going that often you may want to ring the dr. thats not normal and he could dehydrate so give lots of liquids. divvi
I've taken immodium with me whenever I travel; the deal is that you give one after every bowel movement. This does get you stopped up. So don't go that far. But a couple should be enough...
I've mentioned this before, but some of you are new. I've had tremendous success with the product called "Toto Washlet". It is a toilet seat that keeps warm water in the ring (seat)..and after they potty, one pushes a little button and an oscillating spray of warm water (adjustable pressure strength) goes round and round on their hineys....and washes away most of the poop. Then, I hand him a white washcloth (sounds like Marsh does this too)..and he "dries off" his rear end..and tosses the cloth into a small lidded trash can. The washcloths are later dumped into the washer. The entire procedure is HANDS FREE for us.
I ordered my washlet on line, and it was less expensive than the cost of one at a plumbing supply place. HINT: One has the control mounted to the seat, and another one has a remote battery operated control that tapes on the wall. That is what I have. Don't have to reach beneath their leg to get to the control. It's very very effective and I cannot imagine not having it.
Look up: Toto Washlet- Jasmine. That's the one I own. Easy to install. You do need a 110 outlet to plug it into. I had an electrician put one in the toilet area. nancyb
Thank you for reposting this, Nancy. I had read it before but forgot. I think I'd better get this sooner than later while DH is still (I hope) capable of learning to use and appreciate it. I think I'll have it professionally installed, hopeless about stuff like this and I want to be sure it works right.
NancyB, the main difference between what I do and what you do, is that I use the wash cloth to wipe her butt. She is prefectly agreeable with this and "assumes the position" without any fuss. This means I have to pay attention when she goes to the bathroom and check to see if she has pooped. If I get her to the bathroom every 2-3 hours I can (usually) keep the Depend dry. If I forget and let her go longer I know I will be faced with a wet Depend.
