Does anyone else deal with vertigo? My LO has mentioned this quite a few times and it seems more lately. Last night he was in bed and said the room was swirling. If anyone else deals with this, is there anything to do?

Frand....I remember once when my husband experienced severe vertigo...he could barely walk but I did get him into the doctor and he said sometimes some "debris" gets caught in the ear and by doing a really quick adjustment he was able to take care of the head swimming feeling. He also prescribed some sort of drug to take if the problem came back...this was almost 10 years ago so I don't remember the name of the drug.

Yes, my husband had vertigo a couple of years ago. The doctor prescribed MeclizineHCI 25mg. It can be purchased over the counter. It seemed to help and thankfully, the vertigo didn't last very long..Maybe a few days. I'd check with the pharmacist or doctor first though, just in case it wouldn't fit with other medications etc. Good Luck.

    Frand,

I just went through months of vertigo myself. My ENT took care of it - I had a lengthy test that I would not recommend for someone with AD. (It involves goggles, directions to move eyes a certain way, and adjustments to MAKE you dizzy). But in the end, the technician "adjusted" my head to fix the problem. After two days of feeling nauseous and a bit light headed, I was fine.

For someone with AD, if the doctor is pretty sure it is vertigo, I would skip the test and go right to the adustment - it only takes a few minutes.

Thanks for all the good advice. Wouldn't you know when I got worried enough to ask it wasn't a problem last night. Still, we've been dealing with this from time to time. Judy, I'll ask the pharmacist about the MeclizineHCI 25mg - it might be something good to have on hand. I am so thankful for all of you.

I asked the pharmacist about Meclizine and she thought I should ask the doctor because of the Sinement he takes for PD. Now, I have heard back from the doctor and maybe this isn't really vertigo, since it only lasts about 20 seconds at a time. Anyone else have that type of dizziness - maybe it happens when he moves too fast? Whatever, I guess we need to find a doctor to have it checked out.
Now I need to confess - this morning I gave my DH two of the Sinemet and not the Aricept. They look so much alike, but I have been so careful to check. The Sinemet, for PD, is a very minimal dose and what I just noticed is that twice as much stopped his hand tremors! However, I feel badly about making that mistake... Well, since I'm confessing, this isn't as bad as the time I separated out our meds and took his. Since I only take vitamins he was ok and it totally surprised me that taking a full dose of Naminda and Aricept had zero affect on me! I thought those were very strong drugs...

    Frand,

My dizzy spells only lasted about 20 seconds (not sure of the time - the room would spin so fast, I couldn't do anything but hold on), and the test I had definitely diagnosed it as Vertigo(BPV - Benign Positional Vertigo). It happened when I would lie flat or change positions when I was lying down. I would recommend the head adjustment treatment over medications, considering your husband is already on a lot of medications. I went to an ENT (ear, nose, throat) specialist - vertigo is one of their areas of expertise.

Thanks, Joang. I wasn't sure if vertigo was constant. I'll look up an ENT when we get to Las Cruces, NM and hope for the best...

Both Naminda and Aricept are probably drugs that take a while to take effect. I'm on thyroid drugs and you literally live on the half life of the drug on those. It takes over a week before you feel any effect, and you can go off them for surgery for as long as 4 or 5 days before you get that I'm so tired I can die feeling. (Been there and had that happen when I was off the drug for too long).

On the other hand my husband missed a couple of his Naminda in one week (due to my being in Emergency and that messing up when he took his drugs) and you could see the difference that quickly.
