My daughter was privileged to hear Mr. Taylor at a Culture Change seminar this morning. He was the keynote speaker. I asked my daughter how he fit into the program and her answer was: he wants to see nursing home residents recognized as real people. That is why I bring pictures and our wedding album into my husband's facility. Just because they soil their pants doesn't mean they don't deserve respect.
I am enjoying his book. That is one thing I have gotten from it is that he wants to still be seen as having feelings and thoughts even if they are mixed up. I like how he always refers to it as: 'dr Alzheimer between my ears or in my brain'.
I should be done in a couple days, where do I send the book next?? Probably for someone who is further along will not get much out of it, but for those of us in the mild to moderate, it is informative - especially since my husband does not share what is going on.
I will ask again if anyone wants me to send them the book 'Alzheimer from the Inside Out' by Richard Taylor. If not I will return it to Clare. If you want to read it, I will mail it to you - just let me know your address.
