Susan, that is wonderful news!!!!!! About time you got a break for a change. So happy for you. :-) Hopefully all else will go as smoothly for you this year.
I had such a nice visit with Jim today! It was just as I imagined it would be when this whole thing started. He was relaxed, even his b/p was down. We poked around, finding lots of big and little places to sit and talk, tons of windows and natural light. Very roomy, very well staffed, very happy fun staff. They found an oversized recliner, that had been donated for him. He was very pleased. I was able to stay and have lunch with him for $2!!!!! The food was very good, a big improvement from before. They set up a table by a window in a quiet space for our lunch. It was so nice, I'm amazed and so pleased. Thanks for all your support.
Being happy with the facility and the staff is half the battle. It makes it so much easier to leave them when you know that they are being well cared for. I can eat with my husband for $2 too! Glad you had a pleasant day.
So glad to hear all is still going well. I know that is a load off your shoulders that Jim is happy there and that the staff & food is good. The windows would lift anyone's spirit as you described them. Hooray!
Went off to Respite after having a mini meltdown on Thursday. Spent a wonderful long weekend at a lovely respite home. I slept, read, slept, read. On my birthday I went out and had my nails done and did a little shopping. It was literally "just what the Dr. ordered. I am home now refreshed and recharged. Missed you all, they did not have wifi!
Jim is having his "feeling of dread" again. He is going into another decline. I could see such a difference just in the three days I was away. The pain of spreading Neuropathy and Atrophy is causing him much discomfort now throughout his arms and shoulders as itdid in his feet, legs then thighs. His legs are giving out on him very quickly. We called the dr and he is increasing his Neurontin. If that doesn't help then we will add on a pain med. As his arms get weaker it makes it much more difficult to safely transfer him. The VA Home is training the CNA's to use a small wooden slide board to get him from his bed to wheelchair and back again. They do have wonderful, comfortable lifts, for use when the time comes.
This is so fast. I worry about the other muscles, his lungs, heart etc and what will happen if he gets sick like he did last winter. Does he have the strength to fight off a broncitis or pneumonia??? Just keep praying is all I can do.
