Look up anesthesia here. Several topics. Most seem to imply it HASTENS dementia rather than causes it. I'm not certain. Most of us would say DO NOT USE ANESTHESIA unless ESSENTIAL - broken bone, for example.
boutoutaluck - I understand the mercury poisoning. When I had the majority of mine replaced, my migraines went away and I felt better. I know a guy in Australia who has it from fillings and is just plain sick. He even thinks it contributes to making his bi-polar worse.
I do hope you can get her to at least your homeopathic doctor. Once blood work is done, you can rule out hormonal as being a contributing factor. She is at the age where hormonal imbalance can really play havoc with your body and mind, even to mimicking dementia.
After reading, I jumped up, got a mirror, & I have those silver fillings in my back teeth. My dentist never mentioned any dangers. I see a few have been replaced with white fillings, or they were white to begin with. Are you supposed to get them replaced with some other material? I've never heard anything about this, maybe a topic for an "Off topic thread"? I seem to be in very good health, good tests each year for my annual physical. No physical complaints. No illness. What do the silver fillings do to you? Sorry to butt into your thread Bout.
Kitty, I think the ones they are talking about are more gray or puter looking. If you have silver looking ones, they are probably silver.
When I was a little kid, they installed the gray looking ones. My dentist has replaced them with white on the bigger ones and silver for the really little ones.
Mary in Montana, when I read your words " FTD causes you to think that your marriage is over and you can't figure out why." I started to cry. OMG that is so true. As I said in Joan's latest blog, FTD sneaks up on you and it is already to late. Thank you for validating my feelings. This is all happenning so fast.
Bout, by the time my DH was dx'd he was in stage 3, that was in Feb/09, now he is in stage 5. This is brutal.

Kitty, Here are just a few links I have book marked; http://curezone.com/dental/mercury_symptoms.asp http://www.holisticmed.com/dental/amalgam/
This is a controversial subject and always has been. The FDA very recently ruled that these type fillings are perfectly safe. I had mine removed by a "mercury free dentist". Supposedly they're safe except that the state of California requires that notices must be placed in all dentist offices warning pregnant women are not be exposed to "silver" fillings. The country of Sweden has outlawed them all together. When my dentist removed mine, or when any of them are removed by any dentist they must be disposed of as "hazardous waste". This is another one of those "hmmmmmmmmmmm" subjects that each individual has to come to grips with on their own terms based on their own research. AS far as I'm concerned, and my dentist was concerned they are toxic to the body over time. And as I stated, mine had been in place for 45 years,
One other thing, did you ever hear the old tale of people picking up radio broadcasts through their fillings. I don't know if that is true, but they are electrically charged.
I would always suggest that no matter what one reads about any subject anywhere, be sure to do your own independent research before taking any action on what you've read.
Amalgam tooth fillings. my late brother in law was a dentist. we discussed this in depth because DH has a mouth of amalgam fillings from many yrs ago. i had ALL mine replaced several yrs ago. i dont care what the FDA is saying it stands to reason if the material has got mercury in it its toxic to the body. over the yrs just consider what a coke does to the teeth and can even wear down metal. many yrs of these fillings in my opinion release mercury even in trace amounts intot he body. many issues can result from toxicity from mercury including depression and many of the illnesses that drs are unable to trace sources from. if you have a blood test done you can test for metal toxicity. many household appliances and cleaners contain materials that do us harm as well. just like asbestos we discovered does. i believe its reasonable to make the decision to remove anything that could be toxic to our bodies as it can produce issues over time no matter how small amounts. this was also the controversary with regards to aluminum having been a source of AD. when brain biopsies produced results that the AD brain had aluminum buildup as a constant. of course many products we use can have hidden dangers. but on this topic i chose to remove all the fillings and replace with resin composites just in case its true. plus they look much nicer. bout, not sure if you are familiair with dr hulda clarks book ' a cure for all diseases' its quite interesting and she also thinks heavy metals can be problematic for the body among other things. chelation is necessary in her thinking to rid the body of toxins. anway, never got DH into remove all his he has a couple left but now its too late. i got mine done and my son is having his done as well -divvi
Ask a dentist why they wear mask when doing anything with those amalgam filling? The reason is the dust from them is toxic with mercury. The city of Canby,OR charges dentist extra on their sewer bill for toxic waste that they supposedly are doing extra treatment for. Toxic waste is mercury. Unfortunately, all those crowns we have also have mercury but at least it is more contained. My younger sister has all sorts of mysterious medical problems. I sent her the links and she read them. She has a mouth full of mercury but can not afford to replace them all at once.
I would have no doubt that mercury will turn out to possibly be a contributing factor to a portion of the AD cases.
divvi, yes, there is no doubt, there is much in our environments that really shouldn't be there. I don't think it will all ever be fully explained away.
Bout, thank you so very much for giving me the links! I will check them out & when I am informed, discuss this with my dentist when I see him in Sept.
On another note. I went back & reread your original post. So many spouses have decades of marriage to look back on. I see yours is short in duration, no shared children. I have been married only 10 years, and we were together a total of 11. We were married in 1999, my H received whole brain radiation in 2001. I started to notice differences in his personality, though not extreme, around 2005. I think it is especially tough if you don't have all "good past" memories. Well, it is tough either way, but different. My H was always such a gentleman, kind and quiet. Then I started living with some stranger that took over his brain. I am fortunate that he has a younger brother who I know will look out for him. I am keeping an eye on him from a distance for the time being. I have saved documentation, & when the right time comes I will give it to his brother. It is strange, I awake & feel like our "marriage" never really existed. I say "marriage" not because we weren't legally married, but to someone in a new marriage, you expect it to be a 2 way street. I found myself going out of my way to have conversations with people in general, just to have a conversation that made sense. I have entered a quiet period, and find I am now just recovering from the whole experience. It will take time. I am, for now, just relishing the peace & quiet. You didn't say whether your wife is agitated, difficult to deal with, etc. No mention of rants. Hopefully you won't have to experience them.
