    In response to many questions about the abbreviations used in "web speak", here is a list of the ones I know. I invite everyone to add to it, as my knowledge is limited.

    AD - Alzheimer's Disease
    EOAD - Early Onset Alzheimer's Disease
    LO - loved one
    DH - Dear husband
    DW - Dear wife
    MIL - mother in law
    FIL - father in law
    SIL - sister in law
    BIL - brother in law
    POA - power of attorney
    DPOA - durable power of attorney
    LW- living will
    ALF - assisted living facility
    NH- nursing home

    That's about it for my knowledge. Anyone have anymore?

    I might add, just for clarification if you see med reports, etc, :

    tx = treatment

    dx = diagnosis

    PRN = as needed

    qHS+ at bedtime (for meds)

    MCI - Mild Cognitive Impairment - this condition precedes Alzheimer's Disease, but does not always lead to AD.

    These are abbreviations specifically for AD from my book "When the Doctor Says, Alzheimer's." It does not include common non-specific ones like LOL=laughing out loud or IMHO=in my humble opinion. Additions welcome.

    Abbreviations commonly used within the Alzheimer’s community.

    AD - Alzheimer’s Disease or
    Alzheimer’s Dementia

    ALZ or AZ – Alzheimer’s

    AL or ALF - Assisted Living or Assisted Living Facility
    APOE – Apolipoprotein E, the gene considered a
    risk factor for AD

    BP – Blood Pressure
    CD – Caregiver’s Dementia
    CG – Caregiver
    CM – Care Manager or Case Manager
    CNA – Certified Nurses Aid
    CPR – Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
    CT or CAT Scan – Computerized Tomography or
    Computerized Axial Tomography
    DAT - Dementia of the Alzheimer's Type
    DH – Dear Heart or Dear Husband
    DNR – Do not Resuscitate
    EOAD – Early Onset Alzheimer’s Disease
    EOFAD – Early Onset Familial Alzheimer’s Disease

    ER – Emergency Room
    FAD – Familial Alzheimer’s Disease
    FDA – Food & Drug Administration
    FLD – Frontal Lobe Dementia
    HHA – Home Health Aide
    HMO – Health Management Organization
    ID – Identification
    LBD – Lewy Body Disease
    LO or ADLO – Loved One or AD Loved One
    LPN – Licensed Practical Nurse
    LTC – Long-Term Care
    MCI – Mild Cognitive Impairment
    MD – Medical Doctor
    MID – Multi-Infarct Dementia
    MMSE – Mini-Mental State Exam
    MRI Scan – Magnetic Resonance Imaging

    omg I am so glad I found this site because all this time I was wondering what DH meant. I had figured that it was ''something'' Husband but I thought it was sort of mean to be referring to him as Demented. There were many other abbreviations FYI that I was not sure about so I figured you must have a list somewhere. You have thought of everything. Thanks
