Having only known DH less than 7 yrs. I'm wondering if the enormous gaps in what most mainstream Americans would consider common knowledge was an early warning sign of dementia. There are some events that it's amost impossible NOT to have heard of. This morning we were watching The View and the guest was Mary Jo Buttafiucco. DH had never heard of the Joey B story. Also had no emotional reaction to 9/11 when it happened and had no interest in following the tv coverage.
The excuse is always that he was too busy to watch the news.

Wow. That sure sounds like it. As has been stated here so often, symptoms can start 10-20 years before diagnosis.

Although I have to tell you I know other men who let the Joey B story slide through without paying attention -- but the 9/11 thing sounds like a symptom.

I just used the Joey B story as an example. I'd hate to see what he doesn't know about the OJ trial. I didn't even watch it, but with the constant references from other places it was impossible not to know what was going on. And I was out of the country for 10 weeks of it. I'm just wondering if the complete lack of interest was an early sign.

How long did you know him before you were married, and when was he diagnosed?

A little less than a year. Diagnosis is just recent and by the end of the week I'll know if the dementia is caused by hydrocephalus. The test before and after the lumbar puncture on Wed. will clear things up.
Like so many women, I've made excuses up til now.,

The answer is yes. They lose what year it is. The name of their street. One of the mini-mental questions is "what kind of building is this?" When my husband got asked the question he could have answered a bunch of things (all of the right), including doctor's office, commercial building, office building, frame built building, but just said he did not know.

I'm not sure if he knew what other things OJ had been tried for when they were trying him in Las Vegas recently. I doubt if he knows Michael Jackson has died although he has been "watching" entertainment news every day for years and they talk about Michael Jackson EVERY DAY.

I guess I must be developing dementia. I have no idea what the Joey B story is. The other things mentioned I have heard of, so maybe I'm not too bad. Even though I have little to no interest in the entertainment field, I have heard of Michael Jackson. I got very tired of seeing nothing but him on the news after his death.
