Terry--this is wild! I Googled Dairi and learned that it is the descendent of a line I used to wear called Laize Adzer. She was a Danish woman who designed clothing out of Moroccan cotton--I had 4 of her outfits over the years and still have one. She passed away in 1998, Dairi is run by the same family and they use her designs. I'm not an Internet shopper, but if I was one, I would consider ordering some on Ebay.
Chico's has different "size"...0 - 1 - 2 - 3. I never really understood why they use this sizing system... In some instances I can wear a 1 and sometimes I need a 2. Good idea to try them on,...I do love their Traveler line. They have great sales in the stores, too.
Nancy--I think it's a psychological thing. They must believe they'll sell more clothing, most women want to wear the smallest size possible. So if the largest size is 3, everything sounds small! I take different sizes too, based on the styles.
I hadn't been in Chico's before, although we have a fairly new one in town. The discussion here prompted me to go this morning. They don't carry any true petites, which I need. They said they had short pants, but that was all. Petites are smaller all over - not that I'm all that small, but I need narrower shoulders, shorter sleeves, etc. I was disappointed after all the raving here. Talbot's petites work well for me, but they certainly aren't cheap!
As to their sizing, I think it's cheaper for them to just carry 4 sizes (0-3) in most things, although their pants do seem to come in more half sizes.
I had a fun afternoon yesterday googling some of the lines ya'll had mentioned. Seems like Blue Fish or one of the others used a sizing system similar to Chico's.
Janet, I take petite size also and it's hard to get pants I don't have to shorten. Depending on the maker petites start at 5'4" or 5'2". I am neither which is one reason I started making my own clothes but haven't done anything for ages. I have some blouses with long sleeves that are way too long and I am thinking of cutting the cuffs off and making them 3/4 sleeves. That would be easier than messing with the cuffs. As soon as the ambition hits me.lol
Jean, I hadn't thought of doing that with my blouses. Maybe I'll try it. I didn't want to deal with cuffs. I'm sure glad they've started selling the 3/4 length sleeves. They're too long to be 3/4, but it's not as noticeable.
Janet I am glad I could give you some inspiration. Maybe I should try one of mine before you do yours. I would feel bad if it didn't work and you messed up a blouse.
Jean, Janet, wait, wait! I have two items that need sleeves converted to 3/4. How 'bout I mail 'em to you and you can practice on my clothes?? (just teasing)
Shoot, that was on my list of things to do today, go to Chico's which is right around the corner from me. I take petites too. Definitely in pants. But I can sometimes wear regular tops, if they are not too long. Are their tops made out of the same great fabric?
Ditto to what Kathi said. I'm a little under 5'3", their short inseam pants are perfect for me. The stores don't carry many of the short inseam, more are on the website. Their cropped pants still look cropped on me.
