I guess I have a warped sense of humor sometimes. Tonight when they mentioned something about Michael Jackson's death on TV, my husband turned to me and said "When did he die?" I answered about a month ago--and he said "Where was I?" Every time he hears about MJ, naturally, it's like the first time. For some reason, considering the incessant TV coverage of every nuance, it just struck me funny. I guess he'll never get sick of the coverage, it just goes in one ear and out the other!
That's hilarious, Marilyn! I wish the rest of us were allowed to FORGET it...it seems that's all that's on the news anymore & just when we think it's done...more "investigation" and information. It has gotten to the point that I just laugh at the people doing the "investigative reporting" because they sound like Geraldo Rivera years ago...Soooooo "serious and forthright!" Don't mean to be unfeeling about his death...it was sad.
natsmom--we had a wonderful local radio talk show host in this area for years named Allen Prell. He used to call Geraldo Rivera "Revolto" because he found him so awful, and I agreed.
You are not the only one that, that strikes as funny. Marylin, my DH never sees a re-run because he can't remember the first time it was on. Everything is new and fresh to him. In the morning for about an hour he is not to bad. If this disease wasn't so devastating I would think not knowing things would be a good thing. Especially when it comes to the TV because it's not worth remembering anyway most of the time. I am with natsmom I think it would be nice if we could all forget it. Enough is Enough already!!!
deb--here's the weird part. Every movie, TV show, etc. that my husband sees he has the "deja view" thing where he thinks he's seen it before. I gave up telling him he hasn't and say let's watch it again. So, new stuff he thinks he's seen, but old news he forgets and it's all new. Topsy-turvy.
we watched an old rerun movie on TCM last nite with the Marxx Bros. A Night At the Opera. DH absolultely howled at some of the antics. i was shocked. never seems to pay much attention unless its george carlin and dirty words. haha. it was so good to hear him 'enjoy' anything with a laugh. have no clue what struck him as funny but some of it was quite hilarious-i will find that movie and play again. groudhog day is sooo appropriate! in our world every day and hour is starting out fresh-. divvi
DH asks me everyday when is the election, and when I tell him it already happened, he can't believe it. he used to be a political junkie, and now he's totally confused about who's president, etc. As for reruns, Thank goodness for them, although he thinks they are still new shows. Loves Raymond, golden girls, etc, and the good thing about those shows, the plots are not complicated so i don't have to explain them. He didn't know who Michael jackson was, so he was enthralled by the coverage. you'd think he was president or something.
I saw the title of the thread "this struck me funny", and thought this might be the perfect place for our "incident" on Friday nite.... Fridays are "movie nite" with my daughter and dw, and all of a sudden my wife started laughing hysterically, something she has not done for a long time....There as a good 15 minutes of total laughter, rolling on the floor type.... It turns out that my daughter had gone into the refrigerator and was munching on some vanilla sandwich cookies....Finally, when the laughter subsided, my dw announced that the cookies were bought at Petco, and belonged to Daisy, our toy poodle......My daughter said that she had eaten some on Thurs too, and said they were pretty good......
Regarding Michael Jackson's death, my son-in-law suggested that he was killed by the Iranians in a effort to get the media attention away from their problems. At least it worked. We haven't heard that much about Iran since then.
My DH does the same thing. He loves "Little House on the Prarie." He's watched all of them several times. Just thinks that is the best show on the air. It would be so funny if it weren't so sad. I just get the set adjusted for him. He generally falls asleep. Soometimes there are 2 or 3 back to back. I just use the time to fix dinner, etc.
My DH likes to watch the news on TV in the mornings. The same news is rerun every 10 or 15 minutes. On the hour it is sometimes updated a little if there is something new to add. He doesn't mind watching it 5 or 6 times in a row. Then he gets mad at it, saying he knows all about it now. Then it's time to think of something new for him.
Today we started watching old Jack Benny shows on a DVD from Netflix. DW seemed to really enjoy it, laughing at all the right spots. Much better than any other movie I have gotten.
