TJ wins the "non sequitur of the month" competition.

Here I was, just sitting down to enjoy my famous Chicken with Marjoram that I finally cooked (first time I've cooked a "real" meal requiring major prep in eons), and then I read that "diet" that was just posted. Fortunately I did not spew a mouthful of Chicken with Marjoram onto the computer screen when I got to the after dinner part..... LOL
  2.
I read that diet out loud and my grandson got up and made himself a chocolate milk shake!!!! <grin>

i have been quite annoyed at times when the 'checker" has commented on how much junk food i am buying; i go on binges (before dieting and trying to eat better now:) and would buy nothing but sugary stuff-i got tired of covering up by saying it was a kids bday party or having to make excuses.. i finally had enough and told one, i dont think you should scrutinize what people buy. another one asked me just the other day, about the depends for DH.??? asked are these like real underwear?? geez. divvi

divvi--the question about the Depends doesn't surprise me. Someone without any frame of reference could ask that. If you know the need you know, if not... At least an enquiring mind wanted to know--are they like fabric underwear (real)?
  3.
That's really tacky, saying things about what you buy...are they the calorie police? I have had a checker ask something about what I've bought, like, is that good?
  4.
    What is a sequitur, Shanteuse?
  5.
I once had a checker comment on what a good deal I was getting on a product. She was afraid it would be gone by the time she got her break. After I checked out I went back and got some for her to purchase later on.

Ok gang. Time for me to join the club. Actually, I had gastric bypass surgery 3 years and lost 150 lbs! A whole person. But as they say, this is only a tool. I have gained back 16 lbs (emotional eating anyone?) and need to loose it so- I'm in for the long haul. I am lactose intolerant since the surgery but thanks to good products readily available, it isn't a big concern. I do fine in the am. Usually cottage cheese and fruit. I also have a great recipe for morning crepes that are scrumptious if anyone is interested. I make them ahead and either eat them or save what I can't eat (unfilled of course) till the next day. It gets tougher as the day goes on but I know that I just need to plan ahead and write down everything I eat. If I do this, I'm fine. Good diet day to all of you.

Wow kathryn thats fantastic that you have been able to keep the weight off for 3 years. WTG!
  7.
It seems I have the secret to weight loss, since I have lost those 15 lbs., and still not gained them back yet. Small portions, and don't eat except to reach the calories needed. For example, I have been eating probably about 900-1200 calories per day (with no exercise other than caregiving). Add additional exercise and stress, and the pounds start melting away unless you increase the caloric intake (which I did not). I've been eating like a bird for several years now, so my stomach has probably 'shrunk', so it makes it easy to not eat so much.
  8.
Kathryn, that is great. Why don't you put your recipe on the low calorie or diet recipe thread and I might like to try it. My son in law had the
same surgery 2 years ago and lost 183#. He doesn't get hungry, which is a big help. He was still losing but his Doctor doesn't want him to lose any more. Old friends don't recognize him anymore. Welcome to the support group for lose 5# at a time.

    Texas Joe,

Sorry I have been too busy to look at this thread, but just saw your post about weighing 138 lbs. 138 lbs????????????

I haven't weighed that since the second grade. I take back what I said on the other thread about loving men. I HATE MEN. They can cut out one dessert and lose 10 lbs. All I have to do is SMELL dessert and I gain weight. That could be because I'm smelling it while it's making it's way to my mouth.

  9.
Well, Joan, you have to know my history: weighed 125 in high school, 135 in college, during which time I started really chowing down and pumping iron. I gained 40 lbs. of muscle to where my max wt. was 178. It felt GREAT! I'd like to get back to there, but that doesn't happen when you get older. I hope to get at least to 155 lbs.

Haven't read this entire thread, but I wanted to add that I finally had a chance to go shopping for some new shorts today. I gained a LOT of weight 2 years ago due to, I guess, depression. It was when I was no longer in control of my life since my H moved us out of our house in his name only prior to closing, and the sale fell through, stuck in an apartment, then 2 more sales fell through. I ate & camped out on the sofa, had no energy to even check the mail. I have been holding size 12 shorts up with a belt & today I fit into a size 9. Bought 2 pairs! As soon as I felt in control of my life again, the weight dropped off naturally. :-)

I may be fat, but for the last 5 years, I have been in fairly good physical condition. (oxymoron?). But anyway, I do the gym -treadmill, leg strenthening machines, free weights for upper body. Stretches for flexibility. Yesteday I saw the orthopedic, who took x-rays of both knees. The good news is that my knees are in pretty good shape - no arthritis. The bad news is that the one that is bothering me may have a torn cartilage. MRI next week. No walking, or leg strength training. So I have been relegated to the pool for cardio exercise. The pool, and only the pool. When I am going to find the time to get all slopped up with #50 sunblock, exercise in the pool for 30 minutes, come home, take a shower, and begin my day is beyond me. I'll either have to get up at 5 AM - not an option - or do it after supper. That may be a good idea - nice way to relax after a long day, and the sun isn't as strong at 6 PM. It's still very strong here in Florida, but not as bad as during the day.

Joan, I LOVE water aerobics! I lost 50 pounds in four months doing one hour of water aerobics Mon - Thurs after work, combined with Slim Fast for lunch and Lean Cuisine for dinner. I felt better than I had in years. I kept it off for 4 years. These last three years I put it back on. Too much sitting after dinner. I will get back to water aerobics AFTER. I don't want to give up that hour in the evening with my husband. I am cutting back on my eating. Most of the time. Today is an exception. I promise that those two chocolate covered donuts I just ate were an exception.

    Mary,

I had dental surgery about 5 years ago, and could not eat for a week. You know what I learned in that week? Slim Fast is NOT a meal. It's a nice drink that goes very well with brownies, but a meal? Nope. And Lean Cuisine? Makes a good snack.

I give you all the credit in the world for being able to stick to that regimen. But I do like water aerobics.

TJ....no one eats ONE slice of pizza unless it is only cut in half! What are you trying to do? I worry about your appetite being so limited. Perhaps you need to get an appetite supplement like Megace. You said you were down to what? 115? Please focus on foods that will add pounds to your frame. It will make you feel stronger.

    Nancy B,

I'm with you. I've never eaten one slice of pizza in my life, unless it was the only one left in the box. Oh my, when is it that I said I was joining WW? I am returning from the RI trip on Sunday, Aug.9, and WW is Thursday night. Does that give me 3 more days to eat every thing in sight?

I ate two sliced of pizza tonight and wanted more. I have never eaten just one slice.
  14.
It was a 4-cheese DiGiorno rising crust pizza. Very tasty. I cut it up into 6 pieces, so that means I had 1/3 of it. Plus a small bowl of peach slices. Oh, and my weight is 138, down about 15 from my usual. So don't anyone be concerned, please....I'm good.
  15.
TJ, I realize you're what's known as a long, tall Texas, a big drink o'water, and a good looking guy. What we're wanting is a little company north of that 150 point on the scales. I guess we need to see what's in your shopping cart and buy the same thing you do. Just what we talked about in an earlier post. A friend of mine wrote a fun country music song....called: "Divorce Sure Looks Good On You", about a guy who sees his wife after their divorce, she's lost a lot of weight and looks great! In my case, when I go through stress, I eat my brains out.
  16.
Nancy, I'm only 5'10", so not a tall Texan. Of course the rest is true. LOL! Stress affects us all in different ways. I have always been the non-eater under stress. My stomach gets all tied up in knots and I just don't have any appetite. When I'm feeling confident and in control, then I eat well and snack a lot, but have luckily never had to really be concerned about out-growing my pants. Biggest waist I've ever had was 33".

Love DiGiorno - but the Supreme. We cut into 8 pieces and usually have 2 left that I eat for breakfast. Husband does not like cold pizza.

Oh, if you need some weight I would gladly share it with you if I knew how.
  17.
I made a couple pizza last night that were good and also lite. Took 2 stone-grounded whole wheat flat breads. Sprayed with pam and baked at 425 for a couple minutes to crispen (watch close). Spread on some pizza sauce and layered home-grown sliced tomatos, peppers and vadilia onions
on top. Sprinkle lightly with salt, pepper, grated romano and other cheese as desired. Bake until cheese is melted and looks ready. Next time going to add canadian bacon.

I found a crazy solution for me. My downfall is evening nibbling. Last night I brought my lap top into my den while I was watching TV. With my furry boys always on the prowl I couldn't leave the computer to get up to graze.

The way I got down to a size 6, I don't ever want to be that small again, 9 is nice, was by following the Perricone Promise. You cut out the white stuff (potatoes, etc.) & eat really healthy antioxidants. Pizza comments reminded me of this. At work they would order free for us pizza, and I would just eat the toppings off my pizza. I wasn't trying to lose weight, the subtitle of the book was something like "look 10 years younger." Ha. o.k., so I'm a little vain. But yogurt with the acai smoothies really took the weight off. Acai is a berry from a special palm tree that has the highest antioxidant content of any fruit on the planet. They did a study & found that by eating yogurt, you would lose the gut weight. I continue with the antioxidants, yogurt, but now I eat whole wheat bread, etc. Nice flat tummy. :-)
Hope this lasts. People bring stuff into this house I would never buy. Like yesterday 2 dozen donuts. Can't remember the last time I ate a glazed donut & it was GOOD.
  20.
For me, I think the last donut was at least 2 or 3 years ago. I even bought a bottle of peanut oil to make my own cake donuts, but never did.
  21.
Gosh, Kitty. What is the acai? I don't think I could stick with smoothies for a meal, but I can't imagine having a "flat tummy" again. Dream on, Lois. I know the "white stuff" is bad. The whole wheat flat bread works fine for the pizza.

Funny you should ask about a bikini. Just was looking through some old photos and found a few from when DH and I lived on Singer Island at the yacht club in the 70's - yeah around the pool - there I was - in a bikini! Don't own one now. LOL
