Honest to God, when I worked as a speech/language therapist, I was the most organized person on the face of the earth. Files neat and up to date. Could put my hand on any file for any kid for any problem in a second. Juggled a caseload of 60 kids, their Education plans, schedules, meeting times, parents, teachers, and was never late with an evaluation report.
I'm not doing as well with the website work. I have over 1000 e-mails to go through, so I am asking for a little help from you. I have the stories of those who have submitted them by e-mail. I need a list of those of you who are working on stories to submit.
Please DO NOT e-mail me. Use this thread. All you have to write is - "Working on story. Will submit via e-mail by August 1st or August 15th." It is extremely important that I receive the e-mail versions no later than August 15th. AFTER I receive the e-mail stories, if yours is chosen, you will receive an e-mail notice about how to submit a hard copy, pictures, and a signed permission form.
If you want to submit a story, but are at a loss as how to write it, e-mail me, and I will help you. The ones I have received so far are all different and inspiring.
Me too. Could you pick one out of the many you have and post it here so we can get more of an idea what you are looking for. You don't need to include a name.
I would like to write a story also Joan but like lmhor and NancyB, it would be most helpful and time saving if I could read a sample story, so if you could e-mail me one I'd appreciate it.
Joan - I would be happy if you think it is worth it to have others see my submission. Also, if anyone wants to contact me, I'll try to help them over their writer's block. You know their stories the best. I have a phone that I can call anyone, anyplace for the same price, so maybe I could talk someone thru it. Betty
I just re-read the guidelines, it didn't say they should be uplifting. That's asking quite a bit from AD CG's. Your daughter may have been depressed because it was about her father--but realistically, AD is too often depressing--can't hide that. Besides, children are often too critical of their parents, especially when we step out of the parental role.
I have to leave in a few minutes - apt. with Ind.Living administrator. I don't want anyone to see any of the stories beforehand, because it may unconciously have influence on how you write yours. However, I AM going to post what I hope will be much more helpful information to help get you started. I used to teach composition in my "other life".
Check back later to this thread, and I promise to have help for you.
I am working on my story. Hope to have it to you by the 1st. Also had my daughter look at first draft last night and I know she will make some suggestions?????
Joan, I've been thinking about my "story" since I got your e-mail. I may need some professional help in making it smooth writing, but I will try. I'll do my best to get it to you by Aug. 15. Right now we have 2 of our 3 kids here, with their families. The 3rd will arrive next week, as will my cousin and her husband. All will be staying until the 2nd week of August. So things are a bit chaotic. When it gets too confusing I'll come back to our retirement Inn and work on the story.
Okay everyone - The tutorial is finished. You can go to the home page - www.thealzheimerspouse.com, and click on the link right above my picture that says "CLICK HERE TO READ ABOUT HOW YOU CAN BE PART OF JOAN'S NEW BOOK, STORIES BEHIND THE FACES OF CAREGIVING"
Direct link: http://www.thealzheimerspouse.com/Joansbookproject.htm
Scroll down on that page. After the general announcement and guidelines, there is the tutorial. Any questions, post them here. You may have to refresh the page for the tutorial to show up. Thank you.
That's the first time anyone has asked that question, but yes, you can submit more than one. If yours is chosen, it will only be one of them, but two gives us more of a choice.
Darn....I love my "how to lose your husband in an airport for five hours and not have heart failure" but the other one will do others more good, if it is chosen......oh, well.....
I'm looking forward to reading the book. We're still in fairly early stage compared to most of you, even tho' it seems middle to me. "Everything I need to know I learned from thealzheimerspouse"; so I have nothing to write.
Maybe if they get enough, instead of picking 20, they should just plan on a vol. 2. One for Christmas and one for Valentine's. I believe Joan said those were publication dates they were aiming for--either/or. Just what she needs--more to do. <lol>
Checking in from RI - don't know how many stories I have received. So far, just saving them in a file. Will go over everything when I return home. Keep them coming.
