I finally had the much anticipated interview with Medicaid on Monday. I was told to expect a 2 to 4 hour interview. It was less than 45 min. I was also told that a wait of 3 to 4 weeks is the norm before a decision is given. John was approved on the spot. The caseworker said I was better prepared than anyone she has ever seen. They require an enormous amount of info. Birth certificates, marriage license, bank statements, car titles, house deed, property tax receipts, pay stubs and more. I am so relieved John was approved. HOWEVER the cost to me is one half of our income. That came as a shock. Keeping our home even for a little while and avoiding bankruptcy is no longer an option. Since this is a public forum I won't quote figures but if anyone is interested my e-mail address is available. As unhappy as I am with yet more traumatic changes to my life I am consoling myself with the fact that i did accomplish my goal. John will be safe secure and well cared for for the rest of his life. You can't put a price tag on that. I also remind myself I have options,John does not. cs
So glad it went well. I notice one sentence: "Keeping our home even for a little while and avoiding bankruptcy is no longer an option." I assume you mean you can't live on half the income hence you need to sell the house and move into smaller quarters. Would that then be immune from seizure as long as you're alive? If you don't want to answer here, my email's in the profile. Thanks - briegull
CS, so glad it went so smoothly for you. It went quick and easy for me as well. I was there maybe half an hour, got his card in the mail 4 days later. I was shocked! I am sorry you are facing losing your home, tragic and unfair. ((hugs))
