So I got home from Monhegan today after two gorgeous days there (and several wet and freezing ones), lots of limping around and generally enjoying myself. And found the house clean, the grass cut, the laundry coming out of the dryer, all courtesy our young CNA man. And my husband in great good humor. He wants to take Andrew and also the neighbor/nurse Dana along with us when we go up next week!! I couldn't be more pleased.
But then I read my email, and my dear friend Helga, whose book I edited and published, had died in her sleep last night. Just turned 90, classic Alz. case, in a nursing home and I guess had a stroke night before last. Her guardian followed her wishes and made sure no extraordinary efforts were made, so she went quickly. The guardian will send me her ashes and I'll scatter them on her favorite trail on Monhegan when I go out in August. I'm sad for her but when I saw her in May knew she was heading into Stage 7, little talking, little eating.
briegull - so sorry for the loss of your dear friend...You are a good friend to take care of her remains on "her favorite trail". Glad that things are going well for you & your husband with the help you have. :) Enjoy these days...
So glad you enjoyed your get-away. Very sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. Glad she went peacefully. Please refer to our post of scattering ashes for the best advise on how to do this. (hint - don't tell anyone, just be casual so as not to arouse suspicion :o)
Monhegan is Monhegan. People who drive trucks there don't have licenses on them, etc. People scatter ashes there all the time! We do have a sheriff who'll kick you off if you get obnoxiously drunk or doped up, but otherwise.. well, no one cares.
