Good idea. I will put up a "sticky" where members can contact each other to offer such things as walkers, crutches, bath seats, etc. I CANNOT include medications -please handle that in private e-mails. There are legal issues involved there.

    ol don,

Go to the top of this page. Hit "Discussions". At the top, there will be "sticky" discussions, which means that I made them stay there - they don't go to the bottom. The second one from the top is the "Angel" one.

Yesterday the mail delivery turned out to be more like a Windfall! I got letters in the mail.
    1. confirming Jims MaineCare (Medicaid) would continue!
    2. confirming that MainCare would continue for the boys and me!
    3. confirming that Jim's Long Term Care Coverage through MaineCare would continue to cover ALL of his expenses a
at the NH! At NO COST TO ME!
    4. the long awaited check from Foster Care for caring for Grandson arrived and was enough to COVER THE COST OF
    THE CRUISE!

ALL OF THIS WAS MADE POSSIBLE BY A WONDERFUL ANGEL AT THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES WHO TOOK THE TIME (AN HOUR AND A HALF) TO SEE WHAT SHE COULD DO TO HELP US OUT!

She will be on my list of things I am thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Hey everyone, we wanted to share our amazing afternoon/evening with you all. While on the computer I found an organization that was called "Rides for Hugs". This Limo Company offers free limo transportation for 'kids of ALL ages" with the only cost being a HUG! I called to see if Jim would qualify. They said ABSOLUTELY!!! I was excited beyond belief. I arranged to meet them at the nursing home at 3:00. The owner of the company recommended a favorite restaurant of his. I called and asked for a cozy table for 2 and explained that Jim was in a wheel chair and that it was our anniversary.

I arrived at the nursing home and dropped off a bottle of champagne at the reception desk and went to get Jim. When we arrived downstairs, one of the nurses had gone ahead to take pictures. The receptionist slipped me the champagne and out we went. Jim saw the limo, but thought nothing of it. When I told him that it was for us, he was blown away! The limo driver could not do enough for us. We rode around for an hour enjoying the luxury of the best limo and longest in the fleet. Jim announced while sipping his champagne that HE HAD NEVER BEFORE BEEN IN A LIMO! I was shocked and even more pleased. He was a riot, waving at the passerby like royalty! We arrived at a beautiful Country Setting, called the
Sedgley Place. It was more beautiful than I had imagined. We were escorted in by the Limo Driver right to our table in front of the fireplace. He was so caring of Jim. The owner came over to say hello, and that the beautiful bouquet of flowers on the table were for us in honor of our Anniversary! Then she asked if we liked champagne, we of course said yes. She then brought a bottle to our table compliments of her and her husband! We then had a fabulous FIVE course meal. Dessert arrived complete with candles and singing! When the bill came there was a card inside the folder, the card wished us a Happy Anniversary and the hope that we were making more Happy Memories. It then announced that our meal was compliments of the house! Evidently our limo driver had told the owners our story and they wanted to ensure that we would always remember this anniversary. At this point I was crying, our waitress was crying and the owner was hugging me and crying. She then told us that the complimentary celebration was her husband/chef's idea. He was so touched by us and wanted to be a part of our memories. I was escorted to the kitchen to meet him and got more hugs from him. He then came out into the restaurant to meet and hug Jim. It was all so unbelievable! Our Limo driver came in and escorted Jim and I back to the limo where Jim laughed and said the only thing missing was a good cigar! We settled in and polished off the remainder of our champagne. The driver pulled over and said he'd be right back. Before we knew it, he was opening Jim's door and handing him a Cigar, lol! He offered to get Jim's wheelchair out so that he could sit and enjoy it. We laughed and declined but Jim promised he would savor it later. It was an evening that we will long remember. It far exceeded all expectations. My life has been blessed by so many Angels. To have made Jim so outrageously happy tonight was the best gift I could have ever asked for.

I am adding another Angel to my list. Mike works at the John Deere Dealership. I went in today to pick up my tire chains and weight kit. I innocently asked him to explain to me how to attach the weight bracket. He said, "Don't you have anyone to help you?" I explained that my husband was in a NH. He asked if I could get the tractor to them. I said no and that hopefully I wouldn't be driving past that way soon as we were waiting for a VA Home bed. He brightened up and said is your husband a vet. Yep. Which branch? Air Force. He told me that he was retired Navy. I told him my Dad was Navy. Next thing I know he is checking to see if someone from the service dept could go to my house, Yep, for $300! Then he took me aside and said that he would come to my house because it was the least he could do for a fellow veteran. This guy drove an hour to my town, to which he had never been, in the dark, to help me out! He spent 2 hrs putting everything on, showed me some driving tips, etc. I handed him and envelope with what I could afford and a note of deep appreciation and the promise to "Pay it Forward". Mike, you are my newest Angel. WOW!

A great story, Susan. So many people are so willing to help.

When I expressed concern this morning about whether dh will be willing to get in the van taking us to the airport Friday morning, my friend said she and her husband would be glad to come over and see us off. Dh really looks up to her husband and will usually do whatever he says. Now this is going to be at 6:30 Friday morning. Of course her husband doesn't know a thing about this yet!

A group of my cyber friends were discussing the evils of fruitcake. I mentioned that I happen to love fruitcake. Last night my doorbell rang and at the door was a lovely fruitcake from the Collin Street Bakery.
  6.
Wow!! Collin Street fruitcakes are the best. As you can probably tell, I'm one of the very few fruitcake lovers also :-)

A few years ago, we took my sis and BIL from out of state on a tour of the bakery. They weren't very impressed but I was!!!

I received a recipe from a friend for "Bourbon Balls". The recipe sounds like fruitcake with 1 cup of bourbon. I am going to try it next week. If I like it I will post it under recipes.

I love Fruit Cake. Years ago i baked my own and then a friend gave me her recipe for fruit cake cookies. They are sooo good and a little easier to make. My problem is that I can't stop eating them. One year I froze most of them thinking I would eat less. For your information a frozen cookie is delicious.
  8.
I'm not crazy about fruit cake, but my son and DH loves mine. I've been making the same recipe for years - and I keep pouring bourbon over it for several weeks before Christmas. It's so moist - even I can eat it sometimes! LOL

And, yes, Bama, frozen cookies are delicious!
  9.
Years ago our small dog (a Pocket Beagle) was obviously in great distress with a distended belly. We were sure she had an intestinal obstruction, but the vet couldn't find anything. Then my wife found a small area where she had vomited what looked like fruit cake. Further investigation proved that she had eaten an entire 1 pound fruit cake. At that point we stopped feeling sorry for her. She recovered by the next day and went on to eating anything she could find.

Thought this was a good time of year to take stock of our blessings and the Angels in our lives. I have two good men trying to get me up and running with a laptop that will work wirelessly, the church just called to say that they will have a complete turkey dinner basket ready to pick up on Saturday! and I got a call that there is scholarship money in our village fund that may allow my little grandson to start ski/snowboard lessons at little to no cost to me! AMEN! Oh and the Maine Association for Adoption and Foster Families wants a list of any special gift items the boys may want! I'm speechless! Thank you Lord.
