I don`t understand how dh can all of a sudden remember all of our names , going from wheelchair to starting to walk ,with help, does it have something with getting fluids pumped into him for 24 hrs., he is even eating a little, talks ,holds his head up and looks at you, this all started after his near death a week ago. His b-day party was nice and he cried evertime someone came there and he even knew his friends names, got mad at me when we were getting ready to leave said Gail this is not funny anymore, did I feel guilty. I know they are keeping on giving him 2000 cc`s of fluid a day, o I forgot to ask them how much 2000 cc`s is, I`m thinking maybe 8 glasses of liquid? I need to get to the nh to visit him , couldn`t get there yesterday, it really sucks not having a car, having to ask children to bring me is hard to do they are all so busy. Thanks for letting me talk again . Gail
oh yes, Gail, fluids are what make us tick. without enough in our system organs tend to lose capacity and shut down. my DH turns into a rag without 2 liters of water daily. its the necessary amount for him to keep his system oiled and functioning. dehydration can cause brain cells to suffer loss and dementia like symtoms on top of any other systemic failures that can occur. without fluids our kidneys shut down and then its syanara. 64oz is 8glasses and its one of those huge jugs of juice =divvi
Hi Gail...1 ounce equals approximately 30 cc. So a 10 ounce glass would be 300cc. You can see how depleted your husband was....think of fluid needed to keep blood pressure up and the increased BP allows for blood to bring needed oxygen to his brain. Of course they will watch him closely and monitor him, not to overload him and cause fluid build up in his body or his blood to become too dilute.
Absolutely, Gail! My husband's PCP declared he was dehydrated, - I had said there just had to be "something wrong" with him, because he was behaving even more strangly. Doctur said dehydration affects the viscosity of his blood - and subsequently, his thinking, energy, and kidney functions. We're practically forcing liquids and the special popcycles that include electrolytes..His blood pressure is gradually improving. He had been at 94/65.
you can also get pedialyte in liquid form that tastes like koolaide and you can blend with ice for a slush. add a scoop of lime or orange sherbert and its downright yummy. Divvi
