I'm happy with facebook. However, they have changed some of their privacy policies. Be sure to go to settings and check who you want to see your profile, etc. And your profile picture should be marked "no one". They are allowing third parties access to pictures unless you mark yours that way. Otherwise, no problems.
I'm happy on Facebook. I'm not accepting any more rounds of food flinging or hugs however. So if you asked, that is why I did not accept. I friended two of my great nephews. One is not active and the other I can't make heads or tails of although he posts constantly. <grin> My daughter's friends are more fun to follow.
I'm happier on GoodReads. I've joined some of the groups and I'm having a good time talking about books with some of the people there.
I like Facebook, but don't check in every day. My children and grandchildren send me updates on their lives and pictures there, besides my contacts with those from here are there now. Like Starling, I don't participate in the hugs, food flinging or quizes. I just answer comments on the walls, messages, and look at the photos we all post. Getting to see members here, their spouses and children is wonderful!!!
I like Facebook because I can keep up with children, grandchildren, and greatgrandchildren. I have also heard from some of the kids that grew up with my children. It is really satisfying to know that they are sharing their lives with me. I also have enjoyed the posts from friends here on Spouse and the pictures of their families. I don't participate in the hugs etc but I do comment on posts. The chat feature is nice too and Ann I enjoyed the chat I had with you a while back. Also enjoyed gourdchipper gourd art. He is really good.
I signed up for facebook, but can't figure out how, or why, to use it. There is no picture there, or here, because I can't seem to get it right on how to put them on the site. I really don't see much point in facebook for me. I get more than enough support on this site. People I really want to contact I can reach by e-mail. Why am I listed as "friend" to my accountant? I don't care about her trips, children, etc.
I enjoy Facebook. Another way of keeping up with the outside world. Enjoy the photo's everyone post. I just contacted a friend from High School that I have not seen in over 38 years, come to find out she lives about 5 blocks from me...small world. I really don't have any friends here, so I am hoping to renew our friendship.
I think most of the communication is actually done on our facebook page, not the group. I, like others, enjoy the pictures. Facebook allows the pictures and little chit chat we can't do here (pictures) nor want to just chit chat. I too do few of the things - takes up too much space.
If you haven't already changed your settings, please do so, there was a lady in Indianapolis photo popped up on a singles site.
Warning I Received: IMPORTANT - To everyone on my Facebook. Please pass this around to all your friends. Facebook has agreed to let a third party advertiser use your posted pictures without your permission. Click on SETTINGS up where you see the log out link. Select PRIVACY SETTINGS. Select NEWS FEEDS AND WALL. Select the tab that reads FACE BOOK ADS. There is a drop down box, select NO ONE. Save your changes.
I just did that and got this msg: Worried about privacy? Your photos are safe. There have been misleading rumors recently about the use of your photos in ads. Don't believe them. These rumors were related to third-party applications, and not ads shown by Facebook. Get the whole story at the Facebook Blog, or check out the Help Center.
I have pretty much stopped using the third-party apps (except the scrabble game).
I just realized where I've seen the photos used by third-party apps. In the HUGS app. I no longer send out hugs or any of the other things. From here on in I am not accepting them either.
The lady & her husband were on the news this morning. She would have never known her photo was on the site, however, it popped up on her husband's page as a question on the right side of the page asking him if he would like to meet singles. As, she mentioned her husband took it all in stride & laughed, however, things could have gone the other way.
I am sooo frustrated. Gather up 30 pics. Had them put on disc. Have tried 3 times to set up albums on Facebook page. Can't down load; pics don't conform to ... Then called store where I got the diosc made, as I'd told them why I wanted it. Young man suggested I had to save the pics tomy desk top from the disc, then upload to Facebook. GRRRRRRR.
I think I need to get one of my sisters or nieces/nephews to help me through this first set. Can't the Simple Uploader pick them up one at a time? That's what I tried to use two of the times.
Are the files too big? I haven't tried to put photos on Facebook because this year I haven't taken any. But when I was doing digital scrapbooking I used a free program to make my page files smaller so I could post them online. Once you have the files on your computer, using this program is EASY.
Last night I had my niece walk me through Facebook to apply to the azspouse group--just wanted to let you all know that I'm there--in cyberspace--somewhere. I guess it will all become more familiar as I go along? Have to get her to help me put in a picture. How do you match people up to their screen names here?
No, Stella, you don't need to change the size of the photos to upload to FB. That is, indeed, one of its great advantages over other apps. It's just that the Java application that uploads in the "preferred" way is sorta too smart for its own good. I think that using a different browser may be the key to getting it right. I normally use Firefox, and it doesn't work, but just now I tried Chrome and it worked fine.
Marilyn, we have a whole thread on the AlzSpouse group where people identify themselves. Poke around.
I also enjoy Facebook. I keep up with my granddaughter, and old friends and relatives who I haven't heard from in years except for christmas cards are also on there. Of course I love hearing from all of you. I also don't respond to the hugs, and stuff that's thrown at me. I Just like to keep up.
I noticed someone ask how to post a Photo, here are the instructions.
1. Step 1
Go to the Facebook website and log in to your Facebook account. If you don't have an account on Facebook, you can sign up for one free. 2. Step 2
Locate edit tabs from your personal Facebook home page, where you will notice four bold tabs across the top of the page--Profile, Friends, Networks and Inbox. Next to the "Profile" tab, there is an "Edit" link. Click on this link. 3. Step 3
Locate the picture link. Your basic information will appear on the screen. Across the top of this information are 7 tabs. Click on the "Picture" tab. 4. Step 4
Click on the browse button and locate the picture on your hard drive that you wish to use as your profile picture. Once you have indicated the file which you want to use, click "Open." 5. Step 5
Certify that the picture is legal. Check the box that indicates that you do have the authority to distribute this file and click "Upload Picture." The picture will appear as your profile picture once it has finished uploading.
kadee--thanks for the instructions. I guess I need to figure out how to use my scanner, to put pictures on my hard drive first. I may get a lesson this weekend.
Charlotte, I don't play any of the games anymore. They were taking way to much time. I do enjoy keeping up with my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Also my friends from Spouse. I was surprised at how many of my children's friends added me as a friend. Most of them grew up in the neighborhood and were at my house a lot of the time. Now they are scattered all over the USA and it makes me happy hearing from them.
I don't play games but I did just post a picture of Maxi-cat in his new "holster" - a sort of vest to use taking him outside on a leash. He actually walks with it. And doesn't seem to miind wearing it.
I love the picture you posted. We experimented a few times with a type of harness/leash thing with some of our cats. Nothing ever succeeded....most of the time the cat would just lie down and flatten out...wouldn't move a bit.
