It has come to my attention that some members who are having trouble signing on to the message boards seem to think that I have banned them from using the site. In the first place, I don't even know how to do that. It's probably in the Administrator account somewhere, but I have never looked for it.
Secondly, many members have e-mailed me at various times to alert me to trouble signing on. Sometimes it's a simple error in spelling or cap locks. Other times, it is a forgotten password. Sometimes, it is for no apparent reason. If that happens to you, please e-mail me, and I will give you instructions on how to get back onto the message boards.
It didn't occur to me that Joan would ban me from this website when I couldn't sign on automatically...(haha)..but I'm sure there are times when she wishes she could!! (Joking!! everyone!!) Just for everyone's info., several times I have had to sign in again from scratch...usually after I've cleared my temp. files and cookies, and I think when I hard boot my computer. (Mine has gotten jammed up a few times).
Anytime to delete/clear cookies, you passwords will be erased. If you just clear temp internet files, it usually will sign you out of all sites but the passwords are still saved. Often, you virus software will sign you out when it scans.
I finally had to establish a new name and password but as you can see with this post, I am now back in business. I apologise for causing so much problem. I will quit asking for the impossible. bill
billeld--Glad you're reconnected. We all ask the impossible from time to time. Sometimes we get what we ask for--like the support here. Sometimes we don't. And sometimes we find there's another way to get what we need, if we open our minds to other options.
this happed to me the other day,,,,,, I just signed in with another name and password. So finally I exist in two places other than the mommie patrol.............
Well,-------I tried to log-on today with bille instead of my new, billeld, and lo and behold, the old one worked. I am an engineer and I have less forgiveness when these computers do not work right but that seems to be even more lately. Hope my computer isn't about to crash. bill
If you were able to log on today with the old "bille", I am guessing, and it is just a guess, that when you had trouble, it may have been a typo or caps lock problem. Or, as I said in my e-mail, it could be for no reason at all. Who knows when it comes to software?
It is all in the attitude of the little gremlins that live in everyone's computer! They come in the box that the computer is packed in...so they must come from the factory ;-) Also, I have a case of "stupid fingers" at times...not matter how correctly I type ....they hit the wrong keys!...Ann
Funny you should mention the gremlins in the computer . . . when I got my first Apple (I think it was an Apple IIe) I did something that caused a message to appear on the screen. It said "Help! We're being held hostage in a computer company in Texas!" I could never figure out what I did or get the message to appear again. I hope "they" aren't still being held hostage. Apple IIe was a long time ago!
I guess I just thought I had signed in as bille. It still won't work. Gremlins for sure. Let's get on with being the best Caregivers we can. I plan to add a new post to Carols Blog today telling our friends that with our Helper on maternity leave and could use a little help from then. You know, that is very hard to word it in such a way that I don't feel like I am sounding like a begger. I may tell on another thread what I ended up with using. Love Bill
billeld-- Let your friends know there's going to be a need, but also give them some clues as to what they can do to help. It really isn't hard to say, "Could you possibly take Carol to her hair appointment?" Sometimes people are willing to help, but don't know what would be a help. Mow the lawn? Visit with Carol so I can keep my Dr. appt.? Clear requests often get results, and it's not begging.
I belong to a club with my friend Kay who had breast cancer surgery and is now on radiation 5 days a week. A couple weeks ago she got overwhelmed with Jim's AD and the tiring radiation and sent out a e-mail to all of us asking if we would like to have a "frozen casserole shower" so she wouldn't have to come every evening and prepare a meal. None of us had thought about it. We immediately began making and gathering up frozen dishes, cakes, etc. and took to her home or in my case she drives by me on her way home. We were glad she did not suffer in silence. Good luck.
