A few years ago DH and I were hiking and came to a place where they were constructing a new bridge. The stantions had been installed and a mother osprey decided to build her nest on top of one of them. All work stopped on the bridge until the babies were ready to leave the nest. She had three babies. We could see them through binoculars. Those were ugly babies but I wasn't about to tell her. She thought they were beautiful and I guess that's all that counted. She was such a good mother. We stood and watched for the longest time.

They finally got the bridge finished later in the summer. :)

Around here a good man builds osprey platforms and the ospreys nest there very happily each year. ("Osprey" is what we used to call "fish hawk") They're great to watch.

They can easily be mistaken for a bald eagle except they are smaller. They fly over here and do really fancy loopy loops and stuff. I don't believe eagles do that. I really do enjoy watching those birds. Saw an eagle get into it over a salmon with a seagull one time. That was really something. I didn't think the two species would fight like that. I don't think either one of them got the salmon.
