My dh bit his nails for his entire life. When he went into the Marines, the DI saw this and "temporarily cured him". He had all the guys go to the bathroom and NOT flush. Then dh had to dip his nails into them all. I'm certain this would have cured me too. Once he was out, he went right back to nail biting. I thought for certain that the nerve endings and "growing" power was long since dead but, low and behold, since being placed in the nh, NO MORE NAIL BITING!! I am amazed. I can even see small nails starting to grow. ANyone else notice any change in longtime habits?
I don't know if this has anything to do with AD, but for 36 YEARS, I tried to get Sid to put the toilet seat back DOWN after he used it. Never, ever, ever, did he do it. When we moved into the new house in Florida, and his AD symptoms increased, I noticed that he was putting the toilet seat down after he used it. ?????????????????? I never said a word, because I didn't want to bring attention to it and maybe have him go back to his old ways. Weird, huh?
That's funny, Joan. My DH had always put the seat down. As the ALZ progressed a bit, I started leaving the seat up- thinking it would be easier for him. WELL!!! He always tells me when I leave it up, to PUT IT DOWN!!!
my DH always put the toilet seat down, and the lid. now he leaved it up... and he prided himself on it. He also forgets to flush, but that's another story. c
MY change of habit is where I used to have the toilet seat down for me, NOW I insist that we have both toilet seats in the up position so that they stay clean for me!!! <grin>
My DH has asked me several times "how" to flush the toilet. It's just one more mechanical challenge. Seems I have read that forgetting how to flush is rather common. So far, it's only about 25% of the time he forgets.
